Autocontrol Matrix Plus and MS-8
Good morning,
The signal that my MS-8 is getting is so low that I can't properly calibrate it. After quite a bit of reading (thanks Kai), I've decided to run a line driver between my DA2 and my MS-8. The question I have is the following: the MS-8 inputs are rated at 2.8v, and the LED on the Matrix only show 1v, 2v and 5v. Should I use a volt meter to determine how much voltage the Matrix is outputting to make sure I don't go over 2.8v, or should I just install it as per the YouTube tutorials (increase output on the Matrix until max is reached, and then lower it a notch so it doesn't go past the 5v LED)? EDIT: or in other words, will I fry the MS-8 if I give it more than 2.8v? I assume not since I'm guessing you can use a 5v head unit with the MS-8 without issues, but better safe than sorry... Thanks, and sorry if it's a silly question. Hard to find any MS-8+line driver related topics. Last edited by Bicax; 08-26-2013 at 02:55 AM.. |

During MS-8 input setup, use the De-EQ function to determine the point where the combined levels of DA2 and Audio control units put out 2.8v (don't select "Skip input setup"). Set the HU close to max volume, say 50 clicks (my DA2 is clean until max volume), then play the CD and increase the level on the Audio Control until you get three OKs and leave it there (this is when the MS-8 inputs receive 2.8v). Then cancel the setup procedure and start from the beginning, but this time skip input setup. When you play music, just make sure you don't go past the 50 click point, otherwise it will start to distort.

Glad I posted here since I didn't even think about that. Makes total sense. Thanks!
Should be installed by the end of the week, I'll report back as soon as I've had some time to configure everything again. |

Installed and configured, and now FINALLY my sound is decent and the MS8 is doing what it's supposed to do.
Midbass is finally there!! EDIT for those using the search because they had a similar issue and that end up reading this: most people were telling me that there was no need to do the Input Setup when you're using the DA2 (or any other device that gives you a flat and full range signal). This is true, however running the Input Setup does allow you to troubleshoot whether your MS8 is getting enough voltage or not. Last edited by Bicax; 09-01-2013 at 12:57 PM.. |
