Car stutters under hard acceleration - Dealership cannot find problem

3 visits...a few repairs...too much cash out of my pocket and still no result!

The car stutters/bucks under hard acceleration (3rd-6th gear). They've replaced the Fuel Injectors, Coil Packs, Fuel Pump...and it still happens.

They can't figure out the issue and I'm tired of dropping serious cash at the dealership. I even added the Techron Fuel System Cleaner on an empty tank and filled up during a different visit with Non-Ethanol gas.

Same shit...doesn't matter. Still stutters.

The problem? My wife is getting ready to kill me due to all the repairs. I'm trying to tell her the car is pretty much brand new once this issue gets resolved especially with all these new items that have been added... but she's scared of what else can happen - not to mention it's still not fixed. So yea...I'm sure she'll have me sell it as soon as it's fixed.

2009 E92 335i (6spd) with 46,000 miles - stock with DCI.

The only thing I haven't done is change the spark plugs...I guess I might as well do those too...

Any help?

Change your spark plugs!!! that should of been one of the first thing you change. Secondly make sure you injectors are the old part number. If you got new injectors with new part number they should of came as a set of 6. If they did the coding for you with 3 new part number injectors and 3 old ones you are going to get major misfire problems. Also when you remove your spark plugs you can smell the plugs. If it smells like fuel, then that injector is probably leaking. Just my 2 cent, hope it helps.

post a pic of the invoice for your injectors and members will be able to chime in to tell if you got the new or old part numbers.

I'm sure they're the newest version...I had them replaced two years ago and the dealer told me they had to change all 6...

I'll try and pull the invoice when I get home.

You don't have the newest injector part number if its over 2 years ago. My local N54 test car just got the newest injector part number and our local dealership did not listen to what I told them having to replace all 6 at once as they are matching sets. They replaced 3 and the car misfired so they had to do the job twice and in the end we got a new HPFP with the newest part number and all 6 new injectors. *Keep in mind the old injectors you can replace one at a time the 6 one's you have to replace all 6 if you want to replace one. But I suspect its your sparkplugs

After the plugs I'd look into your valves and make sure you don't need a walnut shell blasting

I had a walnut blasting about 6 months ago so I'm sure it's not that.

2nd...the new Injector Part #'s came out a few months back. I heard that you could replace the new injectors by bank. I.E. each bank needs either all the new Part #'s or the old Part#'s. Obviously not ideal...

This is the exact reason I keep a spare set of six old Part number injectors around

Having the same problem with my 1 series....have you checked your o2 sensors? I've replaced everything you can think of. I talked to Terry at bms and he believes it's a bad o2 sensor.

Change your plugs as mentioned. They were due at 45K miles and should be part of maintenance although you will have to fight for it now. If that doesn't fix the problem look into your O2 sensors as mentioned. GL and keep us posted.

+1
What he said.

I had the same issue, but they didn't do one bank, they just did all six, HPFP and some other stuff.

I need to change my plugs though. I have 28K on these and with my COBB I'm getting a misfire on anything but the stock map.

For what it's worth.......

BMW's official policy now is that you can run the new style injectors ( 13 53 8 616 079) on just 1 bank of the engine (i.e. bank 1 can be new parts, bank 2 old parts). As long as 1-3 and 4-6 have the same injector style, it's okay in the eyes of BMW's Aftersales department.

When these parts first came out, BMW had stated they could not be mixed on the same engine -- and all 6 (or 8 on the N63) had to be replaced. After a few weeks like this, they changed to their current policy. Bean counters getting in the way? I'm not sure, but the dealership really didn't do anything wrong following their procedure.
