335is track time)
I'm taking my 335is to track this weekend and since I never done anything like this before I was wondering if someone maybe can provide some tips or general recommendation for me, maybe I'm overlooking something very obvious)

What about if you're colorblind?)))
Pocono FUSA Track - Pocono FUSA » Team Pro-Motion. I booked it through Track Time 4 Cars (in case if someone wants to join). I'm super excited myself!

Haven't gotten around to it. I'm in a car club that rents the place for a day once a year and I was out of town when they did it this time around.

1) Don't try to go too fast. Follow the directions of your instructor and be predictable, and by the end of the day you will be fast, have fun, and drive your car home! If you try to go too fast too soon, you won't do any of those three.
2) If you are at all mechanically inclined, the one thing you want to do in preparation is bleed your brakes with some good quality brake fluid. The stock pads should be OK for this type of thing, but the fluid can overheat pretty easily, especially if it hasn't been changed and has absorbed some water. I use Motul RBF600, but Ford Motorcraft DOT 4 is also good and popular. If you can't get any of that, a fresh bleed of pretty much any fluid is better than nothing. 3) Have fun! This isn't a race, and that should always be the goal!

Depends on the organization. NASA and SCCA both require roll bars for convertibles without factory rollover protection, but there are many other clubs that do tracks days which do not require it. Here in southeast GA / northern FL, there are 2 different groups that run track days at all the local tracks, and do not require roll bars for convertibles.

Bleed your brakes, even if you think they are "ok".
My 335is boiled fresh RBF600 on the track recently. I'm switching to Castrol SRF and installing brake ducts. Bleed your brakes. |

Agree on the brake fluid I easily overheat my OEM fluid after a few laps. Don't forget to get track insurance your regular car insurance will not cover damages!

I ride team pro motion with my ducati. I won't be there this weekend though. great guys. The cool thing about track time 4 cars is that they have really small groups so very few people on the track.
Advice: bring a spare tire/wheel, jack, air gauge, lug wrench, lawn chair, air pump, water, good snacks, comfortable clothes (sometimes long sleeves are required) check your lug torques to make sure they're set clean everything out of you car- everything set your tires to a few PSI lower than usual. read online to find the best track temps. try to get a track map in advance that you can draw/notate on the day-of spend time to really understand the race line perfectly. know that line perfectly before you go fast. smooth is fast, fast is smooth be calm and have a great time! |
