Can only get oil from bmw
Just been in to see my local bmw garage about the cost of service thats due soon, and when I told them i will supply my own oil they said they cannot use it, I then went on to say that's its castrol edge correct 0w 30 and meets ll04spec etc and they then asked where did I buy it from when I said the Internet, they told me it can't be the correct one as the only one for my car can only be bought from bmw and they wont put it in the car.
Anyone had this before? |

Complete drivel. Dealers do not and cannot insist on that at all. As long as the oil meets BMW standards (LL04) then it's no problem. It's BMW's standard not a dealers. Idiots.
Alternatively, save yourself £££s, and use Comma Syner Z (also LL04). Oh, and another dealer. |

The level of incompetence at main dealers is growing as actual mechanical knowledge continues to wain in lieu of a computer says no bunch of unskilled buffoons who can barely plug in their code readers letalone understand the cars.

Ive had the same with sytner oldbury in the past - sorry but you cant use your own oul even though it meets spec. Emded up using rybrook warwick who said no probs we will just knock the price of the oil off the service price

Went to 2 main dealers and they happy to take my supplied oil.
All stamped and no issue. They didn't even mind what brand - just as long as its the same grade.

Have used Rybrook in Warwick for years for my servicing. My M5 was serviced there on Thursday. As Mistryn says, no problem with supplying own oil. In fact, my M5 needs 9 litres of the stuff, so I buy it from ECP for £70. BMW want to charge £230 for the same amount! Crazy!

Still, easy to resolve. Vote with your feet. You would think they could work that out themselves... How nice that you can afford to antagonise your customer base. Business must be good. |

They make a lot of margin on oil, so you can see why some try it on.
The workshop use 55gallon drums of the stuff which they get at a damn good price for sure, and yet they charge you retail £/litre for it. Many will also charge you for full litres, not halves, so even though your car takes 6.5 litres they charge for 7. A few years back, when I asked for my spare half litre, they tell me they can't handover "opened' oil for 'health & safety reasons" as if they were using litre bottles from Halfords! WTF? Barstewards. |
