3M 1080p CF wrap peeling

I wrapped my interior trim in 3M 1080P gloss black CF but its bubbling on the edges. How can I fix this?

Two of the front door panels is bubbling on the edges bubbling, the little AC vent on the left is also bubbling on the edge and the iDrive trim is bubbling on each side, near the door AND the start button. I can push it down but it returns, you can't see them but still bothers me.

Was I supposed to use some sort of glue when I wrapped it?

No. Its an installation error. There are allot of people that think you just stick some carbon wrap on a panel and its done. Wrapping vinyl is a multi layer cast. It needs to be taught were to stay. To do this you need to super heat each trouble area. A proffessional installer would know what areas are trouble areas before they refit them and would heat treat each area to the correct temperature to temper the vinyl to conform.

Long story short each part that is lifting will need to be heated up just enough that it relearns where its supposed to conform. Once done it wont lift again unless the dry glue has been contaminated in which case you will need to start over.

you'd have to redo the trim. you could try heating it up and seeing if it eliminates the air trapped below. 1080 is suppose to "breathe" to let air escape i thought.

All wrong. "airflow viynl breathes", it certainly doesnt.

Airflow vinyl has small channels on the dry glue side that allows air to be pushed out from underneath when installing. It doesn't necessarily keep "breathing" once installed. The OP doesnt necessarily need to "redo the trim" as the dry glue on vinyl is very good and as long as it hasnt been contaminated will probably spring back to life once heated up and stick.
Your not having issues with air being trapped right now. Its the glue failing due to unwanted tension in the vinyl allowing gaps, thus creating air pockets.

Heat each raised section to a pretty hot temp but not too much that you burn or damage the vinyl. Push it into the area it needa to stay and hold it there till the vinyl cools. This should in turn "cast" the vinyl to stay in the position.

What he said...vinyl tends to want to go back to its original form which is flat. So heating it up a few times and pressing down will help set it into its new shape.

Adhesion promoter may help, but the heat treatment (hair dryer) is the normal procedure and sticks well afterwards.

Agreed.

You have to get it redone. The wraps have an adhesive that allows it to be removed without marring. Adding glue would possibly fix that, but will definitely be a headache in the future.

you probably over stretched the vinyl or it didn't get a good adhesion to the trim.

Make sure you left a decent amount of slack on the back so there's more adhesive on the surface and that you didn't stretch too much. 3M does sell a spray adhesive for vinyl that can compensate for overstretching or not having enough slack. Just pop the trim out, heat and move the vinyl back into place, and then spray some adhesive on the back to hold the slack in the right spot.

Another thing you can try is poking a tiny hole with a needle and heating it up again with a heat gun or blow dryer and putting pressure on it. Or redo the trim.

now it makes sense. thanks for clarifying how it works. i really thought it was microscopic holes to let air escape. but the small channels makes more sense to push the air out when installing.

I would use a little "3M primer 94" on all the tight edges and bends as it will allow the vinyl glue to adhere tightly without ever lifting up. I've used this many times and never had any issues since then.

Sounds like very poor installation. I would suggest having it redone to prevent this from happening again. It seems as if it was not installed with proper heat or was overstretched.
