e92 shift knob removal..

Purchasing a ZHP knob and was wondering if I have to remove the shift boot with the old knob or if the two are separate.

Thanks

They are separate, if I remember correctly all you should have to do is press in the button and pull up on the knob to remove it, be careful not to punch yourself in the face though that would be bad lol.

Depends, if you have the M-Sport shifter or not. M-sport is one piece, the boot is attached to the knob. If yours is stock the boot and knob will be separate pieces.

The trick to removing the shift knob is to put it in neutral so it's as straight as possible. Move the mirror to the side and give the shift knob a solid yank upward. Just pulling and twisting won't get it off. It's just a friction fitting, but it takes some effort to get it off. Your hands and the knob will travel upward a bit which is why moving the mirror out of the way is a good idea. I've removed mine many times and this is a sure fire method.

No M-sport here. After some more searching I found a thread talking about the M-sport knob.

What I did to remove mine is put it in 2nd and reclined the driver seat back as far as it could and lean back and pull. I put a pillow in between the shift knob and my face just for good measure and it popped right off. Good luck.

Sunroof open while my head is sticking out and sitting on the center console yanking the knob from 4th gear worked for me.

I got a rope, tied one end to the knob, and the other to a horse...easy peasy.

I drove to Cape Canaveral, attached a rope to the shuttle's left first stage booster. Easy.

They retired the shuttle now. A viable option no longer available unfortunately.
