New BMS Cowl Filters

Has anyone tried these new BMS cowl filters? They look pretty cool. They're supposed to increase cooling and sound in the engine bay.

just picked up my cowl filters... wow I'm shocked at how much more I can hear the turbos spool and how much louder my tial bov sounds! Everything is so much pronounced and actually audible compared to the stock setup...

Install was easy, nice snug fit, I dont think it really needs the two screws to hold it down but its good insurance.

What about Cabin Smell? I am all for more engine sound but not at the expense of the Cabin smelling like chemicals.

Don't know how good these would be for a daily driver... The cowl also protects from water

Heavy rain and stuff will go into engine bay and onto the turbo's. Not a good idea IMO.

Can you here those ticking valves or injector pulse noises too?

Good idea for car shows, races, and events. But horrible idea for rain or every day use imo.

people drive without them for years with no issues.

Driving without engine cowl/filters is pretty awesome though. Stock DV sounds like a legit BOV imo. Turbos sound marvelous. Though people have no issues even with vented hoods, i still run my cowl. its really only needed to direct water to side gutters. Dunno how its going to do that without it. It wont break your car, but imo getting water on any hot metals isnt good. A mini engine cowl will be a great idea! draining & sound benefits.

I wouldn't do it.
I see so many leaves and junk in the side grills thanks to the cowl for pushing them there.
Imagine some crap fall onto the turbos/DP. Ie hot side. Nice. Recipe for disaster, not to mention water all over.
Dumb move if you ask me, just to gain noise, 10 lbs of weight savings, and a possibly a slightly cooler under hood temp.
And yes people will say its been done, kudos to them.
Jump off a bridge and follow I say.

I haven't run with the cowl on in over a year, snow, rain, sleet, you name it. Zero problems. I still leave the HVAC cover on, and the two plastic lids are in place, but the actual cowl isn't needed IMO. Just my experience, but it's not something i give any thought to at this point.

What's the cost benefit analysis of removing engine cowl?

Feel free to add to this list. This is what I've read so far...

Costs of removing engine cowl:
Possible engine smells in the cabin,
Possible failure of AC
Possible damage to engine components in rain, ice, etc
Possible engine fire (dry leaves getting near turbos)
Possible deleterious aerodynamics at speed
Windows fog up almost instantly if you turn the fan on, but not the A/C

Benefits of removing engine cowl:
Hear the engine.
Easier to do work under the hood.
Cooler under-hood temps

I like the innovation from BMS and the audio improvement is legit, but when I daily drove mine without the cowl for 2 months I worried about water every weekend when I washed it. It just wasn't worth it for me in the end as the risk outweighed the reward.

One more minor negative is that your windows fog up almost instantly if you turn the fan on, but not the A/C. When you do this you get lots of engine heat in the cabin making the fan useless (minus the A/C).

No you cant hear everything detail of the motor running, but the cowl really dampened all the sound of my bov and turbo spool sound.
