I was considering buying a used 335; it is currently at 49k miles, CPO'd. I would really like the dealer to take care of the brakes now, so I don't have to do it in 6 months time (I-drive readout says they are due in 6,000 miles, so 6 months basically). Any reason the dealer shouldn't be willing to take care of this? I just figured they would get re-imbursed by BMW if it is sub 50k; all maintenance is included up to that point. The sales guy wasn't too responsive to the idea though, thought they were giving away free maintenance. To his credit, he said he would throw in the 6yr/100k maintenance plan for their cost, but I would rather just have it done now, and if necessary to do it again, pay out of pocket.

Is he just uninformed that service is paid for by BMW, or do they need to document that the work was actually required, and not just asked for by the owner?

On a related note: BMW recommends oil changes on that 6/100k plan every 15,000 miles, but most techs say 7,500. By doing the 7500k oil change myself, am I screwing with the fine print on that and voiding my warranty? I doubt BMW will pay for oil changes every 7,500, so I don't mind doing it myself, just to keep my turbos running longer.

I recently purchased a used 335 with a few months left on the maintenance plan. I asked when it was due for maintenance and was told "the car will let you know when you need service."

I'm not used to letting/paying other people to work on my car.

As for voiding the warranty, as long as you buy an oil and filter that meets BMW specifications (or just buy them from the dealer) it shouldn't impact the warranty.

BMW won't let the dealer perform work under the scheduled maint. Plan that the car is not calling for. The dealer might just change them for you as part of the sale, use it to negociate.

BMW does not pay the dealer for any maintainence work done on the car while in stock. All cost to bring the car in spec is funded by the the dealer.

Take the 6yr/100k maintenance plan at their cost if you can.

It should drop it down to below $1800 or less.

BMW won't let them do jobs like brakes prior to them dropping below minimums. Having asked them to take care of slight issues (prior car was an X3) like getting the brakes done a month early because I could see and know they were going to be due, they still had to wait till the light went on and the brakes were at or below minimums to be covered by BMW maintenance warranty.

The other option is simply buy the brake change kits from Bavauto or some place similar and get them done for much cheaper than what BMW will charge.

And like someone else said, getting another oil change early won't void the warranty. BMW will simply pick up the next oil change (if it's still under the maintenance plan)
