Footwell Module 3

I'm thinking of retrofitting to LCI tail lights for my E92 328i coupe.

I am aware that coding is required after the install to eliminate the bulb warning messages.

My question is this.

Is it necessary to purchase the Footwell module 3 or can the coding be done without it?

One particular online vendor assures me it is not needed.

What are your thoughts?

whats your build date? I believe earlier (06 builds?) may need the FM3
