I have an e93 328i. I had the muffler deleted last weekend, after reading just about every thread and watching every video on youtube. All I can say is, never trust anything you read or hear online until you see or hear it in person. My car sounds like a ricey honda with a fart can on the back of it. It's embarrasing. I get an awful, deep, bassy fart can sound at 1500, 2500 and 3500 rpm. in between those revs, the sound is bearable but still too deep and cheap sounding. past 4000rpm it sounds great, mostly because I'm getting more engine sound than exhaust noise. I have owned 6 BMWs in the past 7 years, so spending a lot of money on an exhaust system is not plausible seeing as how I will probably sell this car within the next year or two. My absolute favorite exhaust sound came from my e85 3.0 z4. I LOVE that pure, naturally aspirated straight-6 sound. The e93 is WAY too quiet with the stock muffler, it sounds like a 4 cylinder hybrid

Any suggestions? I have no experience with aftermarket mufflers, other than the more pricey remus/dinans, and haven't found any videos or reviews of some on my car to compare with.

If anyone is interested in buying a muffler delete pipe for e93 with dual 3" tips, let me know. Looks like the sound killing muffler is going back on this weekend.

No matter what you get, you will have that deep base sound (drone), specially around 2000 rpm, unless you silence the bejesus out of the exhaust (increasing back pressure again). To get less ricyness change the stock silencer, otherwise learn how to get used to it, its not bad at all. But thats just my opinion.
If you just want a little more volume over the stock tone then get a Rogue Ikon, the tone is very nice but you still wont hear it with the windows up, and that sucks.

Maybe throwing a dynomax vt muffler would do the trick. Closed valve on low rpms and opens up when you get to higher revs. I put one on an aftermarket exhaust and it sounded pretty good.

Find a 330i muffler or get a Magnaflow muffler welded in. I don't know what you're hearing but deep and bassy sounds more refined to me than ricer. The exhaust will still be loudest at the same RPMs because that's just the nature of the engine, but a muffler should help cut down and smooth out the sound.

Sounds fine to me, don't know how the muffler delete sounds ricey. I had my muffler deleted, kept the resonator on and I can tell the difference between a BMW and a Civic exhaust, BMW has more of a deeper throaty muscled sound then any Civic.
If you don't like the muffler delete then put the stock muffler back on and if you have money and want more of a stock sound at low rpm's but a scream at the higher rpm's go BMW PE. |

I have the Active Autowerke muffler delete and I absolutely love it. I actually just heard it from the outside of the car for the first time the other day, and wow...

Yea it seems the only real nice mod where it sounds good, gives some power, and doesn't call too much unwanted attention is the oem performance exhaust. But your into over $1K for that guy.

The intake is afe. And I do love the way that sounds, but the low end sound is definitely cheap sounding in my opinion. Maybe it's because I have a very detailed sense of sound, or something is different in my overall setup, but I can't handle the low end sound. A scion drove by me on my way home tonight and it sounded wayyy too similar to my frequencies between 2-4k rpm
