335i Lease offer
Hey guys, I'm been in contact with a CA to lease a 335i Coupe. Here are specs and numbers, where do you think I can get a better deal on?
AW 335i coupe Sport Navi Comfort Access Ipod Cold Weather Invoice: $42,725 MSRP: $46,425 Offered Price: $44,225 Training Fee: $180 Maco Fee: $200 Base Cap Cost: $44,605 Processing Fee: $100 MD Tax (5%): $2235.25 Tags/Registration: $115 Acquisition Fee: $825 Residual: 58% MF: .00275 Zero Down the monthly payments come out to be around $790 From reading the posts here I'm going to try to get the training fee to 0, acquisition fee to $625, residual lowered to .00235, and the price of the car lowered an additional $500. With all that it comes down to $730 a month |

Do not pay the "processing" fee
The processing fee, or document fee is simply an add on profit item. It is a cost of doing business for the dealership, and they should not be passing that on to you. let them pay their staff from the profit they make on your car.

Any proof of this? Its tough to the present to the dealer when they say well how can you proove that or if they dispute your claim and your best answer is, "I read it on a BMW forum." I believe you and I'm sure its true. Just need facts to provide it to the dealer.

Let them charge it and deduct it
I have never paid a document fee, and have had many more cars then most. Not bragging, but a statement of a problem and also a fact.
I have had dealers tell me "it's printed on the buyers order so we must charge it to everyone." I say fine charge it, but take it off the other end. Ask ther dealer what the charge is for, and they will explain how they need to pay someone to pickup your paperwork from DMV, or how they have to pay someone to prepare the papers. Both are true, but it is part of their overhead, and should not be an additional charge. If they let you walk for that amount they obviously do not really want your business. A dealer needs to make a profit to stay in business, but to disguise it as a "document fee" is wrong. |

Non-refundable? Why's that? From my understanding, your deposit will always be refundable. Unless you signed something indicating that the deposit was not refundable, which I hope you didn't, then they can't keep your money as they haven't given you anything.
You could always dispute the charge with your credit card company if they tried to get funny. . . |

That's not very typically to have non-refundable deposits, but because of that you're in a much weaker bargining position. If they gave you the best deal, and it looks pretty good, I think you'll just do best eating that fee. |

I am not sure of the laws in your state, but in NJ the deposit, and any other money must be returned.
A dealer once told me until you drive the car off the lot you have no obligation to take the car. He said even if you signed the "not refundable clause," it meant nothing because legally you can walk. I think the exception is in the case of a difficult to onload car-perhaps because of a strange color or options. Regardless, any dealer should refund the money. It is just poor business practice not to, and word gets around fast. Yes, I suppose if the rest of your deal seems good, the $100.00 is unimportant. To me it has always been a matter of principle. |

I'm still not too sure why they asked for a non-refundable deposit. But it doesn't bother me. Still getting one of the best deals I've seen so far in this part of Texas.

I still am bugged by their "processing fee." Why do they try to charge you to do what they are in business to do anyway? Sell you a car and process the paperwork so they can get their money.
Oh well, I guess ADM is what helps them stay in business. Sorry, that is my last complaint about the Document fee. |

Your initial offer was $44,225 + Training (180) + MACO (200) = $44,605. Now the CA wants to add $775 destination on top? Hummmmm, I'd say that your offer of $44,225 included destination. This would have been $1,500 over invoice which is pretty good for a coupe, with the $775 on top of that it's not so good. Also, what's this about $0 MACO? Your initial offer was $44,225 plus training and MACO which came out to $44,605. Now your offer is $44,605 plus $775 for destination but he's saying $0 MACO. Where and when did the $200 MACO fee get taken out of this math? The $44,605 should have dropped to $44,405 (and I wouldn't let him add $775 destination, it's already in your offer). The other parts are good. Getting the MF down to buy rate is good, it's too bad that even buy rate sucks right now. |

What is a "training" fee
I have never seen that cost on any of my over 100 cars. Is a regional only fee, or is it the dealer trying to add yet a few more dollars "hidden" profit?
Now the $100 doc. fee looks more like $250 total extra fees. |

Plugging those numbers into a lease calculator with zero down, monthly payments come out to $755 with the first month's payment and security deposit due at signing (~$1500). |

I think overall that's a decent deal for a US delivered car...except for the MF which nobody is happy with right now. I would think about doing a couple of things. Use the MSD program and with a full seven additional security deposits you can knock down the MF by .00049 which would give you a MF of .00186. Of course that's an additional $6400 up front but you get it back at the end of the lease and can save about $40/month ($1440 total) in your payments. Also, the November rates should be out in two or three weeks. If you can put off the purchase the rates may drop. I realize that's taking a bit of a chance and the CA may not agree to give you the same deal in three weeks but it might be worth thinking about.

What would be considered a good and reasonable deal? I'm already at $1500 above invoice. They said they cannot do $1000 above invoice and i'm trying to knock off the tags and processing fee ($329).
