SES light and Gas cap
SES light came on about a week ago and I made sure gas cap was tight and drove around. It still lingers today and upon closer inspection gas cap has a bent inner metal ring. I am not sure how that got bent.
Could this be the cause of SES light due to gas vapor escaping through gap?? |

Well, I assumed it was gas cap problem and ordered the part# 16 117 222 391 off of esctuning.com .
It arrived today but it looks completely different from my broken filler cap. Metal pieces are gone and there is no hole in the center either. I am hesitant to install it as it looks like it won't fit... Does anyone know if they re-designed the gas cap? Is it OK to use new gas cap with 2007 e90 335i? When I was ordering it from esctuning.com, web site said this is the correct part to order to replace my filler cap.

Yeah, Blue cap fits fine but feels less substantial. I liked the old one better as travels farther when I twist to close. With the new one, you twist it a bit and it closes. Also I read somewhere the new blue cap is prone to breakage if you twist too hard beyond first click as it's got more plastic parts.
But it fits fine and I don't think you can buy the old style cap so I don't think we have a choice...
