KW V2 Installation Question
Hi all,
I just had a set of V2s installed in my e90 LCI and the installer can't seem to get the rear suspension lowered any lower than 2.5 finger height. They are saying it's already maxed out and they can't turn the adjuster any further. The fronts are fine. Was there an error in the installation? Sorry they are not too familiar with KWs because where I'm from, car owners don't usually look to KWs as an option. I searched in the forum and it seems there are people who have problems where the rear is too low. Mine's the other way round. Thanks in advance. |

Thanks for the advice. Problem is these v2s are second hands. I've tried scouring the net and found that folks at 1addicts.com had similar issues because of the use of the original top mounts with the purple adjusters. I can't really relate because their setup is quite different.
I'm sure the spring perches are in place. Gotta double check. Its absence is causing this problem? I'm sure the rears can be slammed further. Sorry for the many questions. Kinda bummed out with my new installs. Was hoping for a lowered ride but now it's the fronts that are lowered and the rears looking untouched from its msport setup. |

take off your back wheel, and take a picture of the upper spring perch.
Maybe they did not remove the factory cup before installing the KW spring perch. And on the rear spring perch, raising the collar lowers the car. On the front, it's the opposite. |

Hi all,
It's been a couple of weeks on the KW V2, with the car tuned to half finger gap at the fronts and a full finger gap on the rears. However, a couple of things I noticed: Problem #1: Fender Gap There's a height discrepancy between the left and right rear fender gap, with the left being a full half inch higher than the left, based on the same height settings. Read that this was because of the car's left hand drive nature (car is right hand drive in my country). It's not so obvious when the car is on stock suspension but once it's on the KWs, it becomes more so. Anyhoos, I got the adjuster to lower the left rear suspension further to reduce the gap and he turned it all the way only to reduce it from the 1.5 finger gap to 1 so that it matches the right fender gap. Meaning the car cannot be lowered further on the left rear side if I wish to do so. Question: Is this a common occurrence with these suspensions and does anyone face the same problem? Meaning I can't lower the car any further on the rear? I can't find much/any on this in the forum. Also when this was done, I get constant rubbing on tight right corners where the car sways left but not vise versa. Could this be a result of adjusting the height in the manner described above? Note: I have 12mm spacers at the rears. Problem #2: Thuds There's a 'thud' sound that can be heard occasionally on the left rear suspension but not on the right. It's driving me nuts and I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the installation of the left rear suspension. But the problem is both left and right rear suspensions are installed identically. Could it be the left rear damper is out? Sorry for the long post. Hope someone somewhere out there can chime in on this? Thanks in advance! |

you'll drive yourself crazy if you try to match thread heights from corner to corner on coilovers. moving one corner up will affects the opposite corner also. If the car is level, they will never match, it's just the nature of the beast. Even from the factory, these cars don't sit level from side to side. You're best bet is to just try and get the car level (as best you can) and don't worry about the collar/thread height at each corner. Either that, or take it somewhere to get corner balanced (it still won't be perfectly level from side to side, but the cross-weights will match and the car will handle better).
the rear rubbing may be able to be fixed by adjusting your rear camber. Have you gotten an alignment since the coilover install? The noise in the rear, I have no idea. you'll need to inspect everything very closely. A good alignment shop may be able to figure it out. |

Hey Mike-y, thanks for the help. Yup car has been aligned. Still have a sinking feeling it's the 'extra' compression on the left rear spring vs the right side.
Bummer if I have to live with these issues. :/ |

Mike-y, sorry for the late reply. Been too busy to update the post.
Finally found the problem with the setup. The threading for the nut lock was worn out on the left damper, leading to the thumping noise over uneven roads. Getting it rethreaded and will be fixed by tomorrow. Can't really pinpoint the height issue but managed to drop it a couple more mm after the installer clamped the top stop the spinning of the adjusters. But eventually raised it up so that I can fetch a full load without having rubbing issues. The weird and obscure problems my car has to deal with |
