CIC Retrofit Emulator Questions
Through my reading I learned that emulators with the video in motion feature accomplish this by intercepting the vehicle speed data going into the CIC on the CAN bus (making the CIC believe you aren't moving); because of this the speed controlled volume no longer works. My question is are there any other adverse effects on things like the navigation trip computer? Do emulators without video in motion not have this limitation? If so, can someone recommend a vendor with an emulator without video in motion? I have already coded my CIC to allow video in motion so I would rather buy an emulator that just intercepts the VIN and nothing else.
Thanks! |

If that bothers you with the speed I would take the emulator out and basically go the Oem route which will cost you an arm and leg. BMWretrofit can do it for you but you will have to spend some cash. There is no other way around it if you want CIC retrofitted to your car.

I'm not worried about the speed controlled volume. I was just wondering if not having the speed data going into the CIC also threw off other things such as the trip computer fields like ETA calculation and fuel economy...
I couldn't find an emulator that didn't include video-in-motion except the one by bimmerretrofit which is kinda pricey for an emulator, so I bought a Chinese one off ebay. I'll give it a go and I'll probably just live with it considering the cost of the OEM route. Thanks |

And cheap Chinese work as good as any others. I have personally retrofitted at least 10 cic with Chinese emulators. Out of 10, only 1 turned out to be faulty and was returned.

Are there any plug and play connectors available now for a reasonable cost? Also if I have a euro CIC unit, any issue w that working in the US & converting to US maps?

If your car is loaded up with fsc codes for EU unit...You would need someone to either install new fsc codes to your unit or you will not get US maps loaded up...
