2008 335i Battery Replacement

The dealership told me it would be $550.00 to replace my battery because it has to be programmed. Is that something that anyone besides the dealership can do? Can I do it myself? What's the purpose?

Considering I went the hard route by searching the info a week and half ago and replaced the battery myself, I'll be the first to say

That's what I figured. I called an independent BMW repair shop, he said it won't hurt to drive it without programming the battery but suggested I do it when I can. He charges $90 which is way better than $300 at the dealership.

Buy a cable and the software and do it yourself. If you have an automatic you can do an Alpina flash on your car.

Bmw Battery

I replaced my battery-- after searching -- with a BMW battery from Century BMW and installed it myself. I did register the battery with a Bavarian Technic tool. It has been 2yrs and all is well. The battery from BMW was not cheap but a worthy route to follow.

That dealer price seems out of line. My dealer replaced the battery last year in my '07 E91 for $390 including registration.

Tischer has batteries for under $200 and you might as well buy the tools to register the battery yourself. It doesn't cost much more than the dealer charges and you'll save yourself a lot of money in the long run.
