finally got the manual thing down....i think
As you guys know im new to it, well i think i got it down now, just have a few more questions which im confused about.
1) holding the clutch for low speeds like below 10mph and reversing,is that burning the clutch? 2) using the clutch to stand still in an incline bad? |

I still sometimes ride the clutch while reversing on inclines. once its hooked up though, u can let it out.

The 335 has an assist so that makes it much easier to start on a hill, no need to burn out the clutch holding the car there.
Make sure you full let the clutch out when possible. Don't press it at a stop light. |

just use the clutch to put the car in gear and nothing else, and practice using the gas pedal to keep your rpm's up

Ok, to fix your problem of driving on inclines.
Put the clutch in and keep your foot on the brake (You should be in 1st gear), then put the handbrake up. Give it some gas and let out the clutch till you feel it biting a bit and then release the handbrake, next release the clutch and give it some gas. If you do it this way, you will NOT roll back, that is if you do it correctly. |

2. Cardinal sin of manual tranny driving. Use the brake. There's a great feature on the bimmer, the hill assist. Holds your car on a hill for 2 seconds after you release the brake, giving you a chance to engage the clutch.

1) yes 2) yes, really bad. use e-brake or get used to rolling back for a little. the key to do it is to relax and be calm even if people behind you freak out that ur rolling back. eventually u'll get it down |

You can literally stop for a split second and not stall in first, don't touch the clutch unless you know the engine will start to bog.
Don't use the clutch if you can to keep you on an incline, but do learn that engagement point. Eventually, you'll be good enough to start from an incline barely rolling back, if any. |

the 335 was also my first MT. At first i was worried like. i started driving around late at night no traffic so less stress. In about a 3 days it became easy. Went for a ride in the lincoln tunnel and just the noise of the exhaust and the clarity of the turbos made me cry...after that i got it down.. it was like magic

also when down shifting, dont use the clutch to bring up the revs, you should blip up the revs with taps on the gas, and eventually you know the car so well you do it with one push of the gas, because you know exactly what rpm your target gear is at.

Correct, i also had to chance to test drive the e60 m5 with my father and using the SMG when you down shift (clicking the left paddle in) it rev matches for you and the SA said it does a double clutch too.... but i dunno if he knew what he was talking about lol.
