Trackday Tires

I was wondering what tires to look at for trackday use, I'm proposing using my winter rims initially which are 18's. I'd prefer to be able to drive to and from the track on these tires too so that I don't have to change rims at the track.

So many people seem to have different preferences from Toyos, Falkens, Nittos to Michelin, any input would be great as it seems a bit of a minefield.

Thanks

PT

There are a lot of great tires out there which can be used on the drive to the track, and perform well at the track. Some of the most popular are Michelin PS2's, Goodyear eagle F1's, as well as Kumho Ecsta MX, Falken Azenis RT615, Continental ContiSportContact, the list goes on and on.

I've been on the Kumho MX, and the Azeni's, and both have been a great tire for their price.

If you can't find your answer here, theres always the Trackday/autocross forum.

If you're doing driver's education events, your goals may be different than if you were racing for the lowest lap time possible.

If I were just starting DE events, I'd be concerned with wet handling and wear rate the most. This summer I've run Advan Neovas, Eagle F1s, Hankook RS2s, several kinds of Falkens, and AVS ES100s. My favorites were the RS2s because of their good wear rate, good response and overall grip, and good rain feel.
