Regarding trim swap for an E92 coupe
Hey everyone! I'm sorry if this question has been asked already, but I spend 20 minutes searching and I found no answer.. I'm about to purchase a 335xi coupe tomorrow and trade in my 2005 C55 AMG and I really wanted to get the montego blue color and saddle brown interior with dark walnut burl trim. The predicament comes since the dealer has been able to locate a alpine white with all the options and interior I wanted but I am still in love with the blue. They located a montego blue with the options I wanted, however the only problem is that the car has aluminum trim! I had aluminum trim in my C55 and I, myself, found it very tacky and cheap looking. I asked the dealer if there was any way to buy wood trim and have them install it, but they said it was impossible on the E92 coupes as the trim was "glued in" (I find this very hard to believe). I need to decide by tomorrow morning at 9 A.M. so I'm seeing what I can do. I know many of you will say custom order it but an extreme need has arisen for the car. So my question becomes:
Is it possible for me to just get the aluminum trim and then buy the OEM walnut burl trim afterward? If so, any estimate on cost (installation and trim price) or is it easy to install? Thanks in advance and I'm very sorry if this question has been asked before! |

It doesn't look that bad, but I feel as if the silver gives the car's interior a "cold" feel. I just feel like the wood helps "warm" the car inside..thanks for the quick response though! Any one else with any more info on this? Thanks!

Yeah, it was definitely cold this morning (35 degrees F in Denver). I understand your preference, but I bet if you buy the car you will stick with it. I'm sure there is a way to remove the trim but I am definitely no expert on the subject.

The trim can definitely be replaced. The dealer is being a prick.
You can purchase other trims for varying prices from probably 600-1200 depending on what trim you want. Find Evan @ Tischer BMW on this board and I bet he can get what you want for a good price. |

Thanks for all your help everyone! I decided to go for the alpine white with the saddle brown interior. Part of me wanted the montego blue, but it didn't have all the options I wanted. Oh well, thanks again!

It can totally be changed out. I have read numerous threads where people have had their cars delivered with the wrong trim and the deal has changed it out no problem. I too like the wood trim! Looks very classy

Yeah, if I had to choose betw. white and blue, i would have to flip a coin because both look outstanding. You'll love saddle with white. I think my trim is the middle wood color.

I'd go with dark burl walnut. Aluminum would be on a Toyota or something.
