The added benefit of methanol is two fold, the increase in octane being that it is a very high octane fuel and the other is latent heat vaporization, or reduction in intake temperatures. My limited understanding says that it must be atomized to fully capture the heat vaporization and possibly with the "fueling bandaid" portion as well.

It needs to atomize to be properly effective. Ethanol based fuel cool in cylinder under normal burn, but methanol needs to atomize before entering the combustion chamber. If that wasn't the case, we'd all just pour meth into our gas tanks. Wouldn't that be nice

Not to mention it would eat your fuel lines very quickly. May as well pour acid in the fuel tank.

The primary reason you can't do this is because it will DESTROY your fuel pump, lines and eat your injectors (probably) and their seals. You could (as I've tested with direct port methanol injection) soften the IAT compensation tables in the ECU and achieve solid results. You can go nuts with other things; toluene and xylene.

Yea, I guess my point regarding cooling was more that it works best when it has some opportunity to atomize pre-combustion. No question the octane would be there. Regardless as you noted, it would smoke all of the seals, rings, lines in the fuel system. Would probably do a number on the injectors as well. The Aquamist setup I’ll be installing soon is very modest in terms of overall spray volume, and even then I’m not super happy about certain properties of methanol. Caking the cylinder walls while eating away at them is not good.

I've heard about wall caking / piston eating before. I'd like to see some concrete evidence of this happening on our platform.
There have been fires / nuked engines attributed to methanol, but I haven't seen evidence that this was caused by an inherent methanol property and not something like install error (uneven cylinder flow / failsafe failure.) In fact I cannot find readily available examples of methanol injection related corrosion, piston damage or 'cylinder cake.' Aside from anecdotal posts on this and other forums. I'd like to see verification WRT these issues before furthering any 'mythological downsides' to methanol injection.

That’s fair, my concerns on that front are also anecdotal- never seen confirmed evidence of this. And yea almost all the motors I see that fail due to meth have a flow issue that is usually install related or the result of a cheap kit. That or they’re tuning very aggressively with just pump gas underneath.
