HPFP - anyone still having issues

Mine went out last Thursday...no warning. Dealer sent a flatbed to my house, picked it up and gave me a nice loaner.

Got the car back today with a new HPFP...works great.

My SA was awesome....great guy...good attitude. Even hooked me with a few things that I won't mention on here. (Just in case - never know who is watching)

So my real question is....Are the new HPFP's that they are putting in now still subject to failure??? Did BMW figure out what was wrong and fix it or is this new one gonna go out in a few thousand miles.

Thought I heard of a few people having 2 and 3 of them replaced...anyone with experience care to comment???

Supposedly, they are not supposed to fail. They only came out with the newer pumps about a month to 2 months ago. The part number changed, so I assume the actual pump did as well. I am not sure exactly what they changed, but a buddy of mine who is a BMW service tech says that it shouldn't fail anymore.

The people who had multiple ones replaced had theirs replaced back when the newer model pumps weren't available. So they kept getting the sh*tty ones over and over.

Hope this clears a little up for you

I think it went from a Seimens unit to a Bosch Unit - what was the manufacture date on your 2007, was it fairly early in the year?

I'm at a little over 2k miles on mine and I feel some slight dips in rpms at idle which have freaked me out a bit. I'm assuming its the FP but I'm going to wait until it becomes more pronounced before I call the dealer.

one thing that confuses me ( but is totally fine with me) is that my car was showing syptoms of a bad fuel pump. i would be getting 5-7 second cranks around the 1k mile mark to early 2k range. then one day, all of the sudden it got back to normal and im at currently at 10850 miles (or so). i think it was ever since i installed my old turbo tuner, which would really prove to me if i did have a bad fuel pump - and that was around 2500 miles. im now on procede.

The only way you will get a new fuel pump is if your car is throwing a code for it, or if the pump dies. Don't bug the dealer too much, or they get the foreman involved. If he gets involved he will threaten your engine warranty if you have any mods. I know its not the right thing to do, but thats how they handle it, or so I am toldbyt he BMW tech.

The car will throw a code while driving if it does not receive enough fuel, or it will throw a code if, when you try to start the car, it cranks for too long w/o starting.

The reason why procede helped your car out, is because it demands more out of the pump than what is usual, and it performs normal. Can't really explain it in technical terms, but the procede tricks out the fuel pump to consume some more fuel, etc...and thus the pump runs more efficiently.

Not sure if that is technically right, just all you basically need to know is the procede has helped you out

I still have symptoms (april 07 car build). Long cranks when the engine has been off for an hour or more and still warm. Starts up immediatley with no problems on cold starts or if you just turn it off for less than 15 minutes. I get the rpm variances while sitting at stop lights.

The darn thing keeps working though.

Somehow, the piggybacks have something to do with it. A friend of mine got CELs from his DPs and then Xeded his car. No more CELs. I think it's from altered O2 expectations.

Im with you on the longer stop light waiting idle. I talked with my SA and he seems to think it's totally normal. Sometimes I even hit the gas a bit cause it feels like it just might stall out. It hasnt yet...(Knock on wood)

I've been told by the BMW tech that this is normal as well.
