WTF ... Now getting even worse economy - e93 320i

So the car went into my local dealer last month for a misfire and EML illumination. They changed 2 injectors, 2 coils, cleaned out the cat and changed the plugs. Prior to this visit they changed the nox sensor.

Before the last visit I was getting an average of 27mpg which I thought was terrible for a 2 litre engine. I'm not surprised said the dealer if you have an engine problem.

2 tanks of fuel later and I've now averaged 25mpg for both tanks despite driving like a granny!

I know its got colder and the engine is taking longer to warm up but 25mpg from a 2 litre engine is ridiculous, even a heavy e93 M Sport 320i! If it was a 3 litre engine and I was reving the nuts off it in every gear then I'd be quite happy with 25 mpg but not from this!

Any ideas? Oh and I still have an occassional very slight stutter / hiccup / misfire too!

I'm so glad I'm not alone on this....

My car is the same as yours and I was averaging 27mpg but since it went in 2 weeks ago for a NOx sensor and coil plugs it now averages 24/25mpg!!!

Its really getting on my nerves, I've even started to use super unleaded hoping it would make a difference and it hasn't at all!

They may have updated the engine firmware on your car as well. It could be that it sits on that mpg with the new parts and firmware.
I truly think that it is too early to discuss it as weather is against you guys.

That's not good mate. It should be better.

I'm getting 29mpg from mine running about town. And you know what I've got.

Vauxhalls 1.8 petrol insignias had the same issues. They were doing the same mpg as the vxr and that was a V6 2.8 twin turbo with 360bhp!!!

It really is disgusting. One of the reasons. I got a 320i over a 330 was due to it supposedly being more economical.

I understand engines take longer to warm up when it's colder .... but ... It really isn't that cold yet.

I also use super unleaded all the time ... what a waste of cash it would seem!

I'm getting 26mpg from my 2008 e90 330i manual and The e93 320i has pretty much identical combined mpg figures (39 for auto, 41 for manual) so it doesn't sound unreasonable for our mpg to be the same.

I do mostly short 4 mile journeys to work each day, am guessing yours is similar?

Funnily enough I also got new injectors, coils and spark plugs earlier this year and noticed a small drop in mpg! Have read this a few times now, maybe the newest injectors are less efficient but more reliable! Hopefully!

I put it down to an underpowered engine pushing along an pretty heavy car. Baring in mind a 4 cycle isnt bmw's forte now is it. My brother has a 130 hatch and it averages 34.....ish. bare in mind its a little lighter. But even with the weight even if it hit the same mpg as you, you'd have a 6 cycle 3.0 ltr.
