E90 320D poor fuel consumtion
Hi,
My car is an E90 320D which is in good condition. Had proper services at regular intervals, new tyres when needed etc. in the City my car used to do 41 MPG ( it is a 2006 E90) and on the motor way it used to do more than 48MPG. Now in the city my car is only doing 30MPG and sometimes my OBC shows this as 29MPG, pretty appalling! Not sure what is going on? my car is done 100,000 miles already, but I still expect this to give good consumption. Could someone please help, what I need to check where things are gone wrong? and what I need to get fixed? etc...any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Satish |

My 330d use to sit at 80 I changed egr stat which made no difference or minimal. Changed main stat which brought the temp to 90c
How ever if I lift off the throttle and coast it stilll drops 3-4c which I think is my auto gearbox stat. But its been fine since so I left it. |

Egr stat is a simple diy!
It literally takes 5mins! I also need the main stat done but looks a little trickier so will get it done at my next service My temp sits at 80 so im only about 5mpg down (can wait for the time being) |

Thanks Jase..how much it costs if I were to get both done at a BMW specialist garage? I want to get this ASAP as I am only getting 29 MPG..I will be happy even if I get 35+

Both parts are around £70-£80 from bmw for both
I think the main stat is 2 hours labour. Hopefully they'll just charge 2 hours labour for both including coolant change I think you'll be around the £200 mark |

Mine was struggling to hit 70, garage agreed to change the main thermostat, got it to 80 consistent, EGR got it to 88, coasting a mile downhill to my town drops it a little especially now but sits 88 lovely.
Will be both. About £200 I'd imagine for a specialist. They shouldn't really charge for the other it's so easy. Although my boost pipe was perished so had to get a new one of those too. Took it off for easier access. |

A job like this wouldn't have to be a BMW specialist.
It's a pretty common fault for all cars so any decent garage should sort it for half the price they have quoted you |
