Breaking in my new turbos with Wedge's backend flash - HOLD ON!

Hey good people,

Many of you know Wedge, WedgePerformance@Gmail.com, as the fellow who helped you remotely code your car. My initial contact with him was for the Alpina TCU flash. He setup my laptop with a complete coding and diagnostic setup and even showed me around each program so I could do it myself. Wedge does all of this and asks for nothing in return but does accept donations; so, I always send him what I can and promise to pay it forward by helping out the locals with some coding and flashing.

So, last time I was bugging Wedge to fix my coding laptop, he wrapped up our session by askin for a copy of my .bin. He got right back to me with a custom map saying, "Boy, do I have a treat for you."

LET THE TESTING BEGIN!!

My new turbos are spooling so fast and hard that I may tweak my wastegate position settings - I always rolled with them 100% closed because I like the lack of lag and never had any rattle issues. However, with the WG position @ 100% closed now, it's friggin' touchy. I'm talking about full boost at 2.5krpm! I'm having some serious traction issues and going AWD sideways at 1/4 throttle - - - - it's the most fun I've ever had in a car!

Timing looks potent and amazing. I have the habit of letting the car upshift (3-4) at redline to allow for better post-shift timing recovery. I tried upshifting myself @ 6k and, lo! and behold, solid-as-a-rock post-shift timing regardless of boost settings.

My 3-4 shift always flatlined, no matter what, leaving me with 12.3x ETs and 108mph traps - and that's with 1.6s 60' times! With that flatline gone - I'm pretty sure I might finally break into the 11s @ the quarter mile!

Logs were done on Map 3 which it was wayyy too cold outside for E85 & meth. I am going to port some of these settings over to Map 6 and report back. I expect results will be even more impressive.

A Virtual Dyno comparison of pre/post flash looks very promising. I never trust the actual VDyno numbers but it has been very reliable in monitoring positive VS negative results in my car.

Anyways, I attached a few of my logs just in case you were curious.

Thanks again, Wedge; you're a miracle worker!

Hey, a fellow Pittsburgher with a fbo 335. Nice to see, wish I didn't have post flatline shifting, I'm using the v3 with the sent in ECU backend flash. Wish I could get numbers like that and where did you find an awd dyno in Pittsburgh?

TPG Tuning in Blairsville - not too far from Pittsburgh Raceway Park. Great bunch of guys! They have a Mustang Dyno and I think one of their nearby competitors has an AWD Dynojet.

Is this 100% e85? Anyway I could take a peek at your bin file? I'm trying to dial in my bin file, but can't get proper data logging with OFT until they come out with update. Would help me if I could compare yours to mine.

This is on 100% E85 which might just be E70 winter mix due to the cold weather.

Just email Wedge and ask him to put something together for you. What works for my car might not necessarily be good for others. I don't want to step on his toes by distributing his intellectual property without consent!

Can you say stock turbo Virtual Dyno World Record?

Need some actual dyno numbers. When you do, make sure you get a stock flash map0 baseline. Just looking at the logs and the VD, I have to say you suck.. LOL your car is now faster than mine. haha Just running flash at the moment.

is the ecu psi the boost psi that would hit if you were flash only, and the actual boost and target boost is higher due to piggy back?

This is the best my car has ever run!

Dyno #s will be here in the spring. I like to dyno and then track so I have real measurable results; unfortunately, the track closed for the season yesterday. I guess running the 1/4m in the snow isn't covered by their insurance!

What are your mods? Including clutch and fuel pump.

You are absolutely correct. ECU_PSI is what Wedge's flash is targeting. I am stacking this flash with a JB4 which is setting my targets higher.

I'm running the steptronic auto with the Alpina TCU flash - no clutches for me. Fuelpump is a Walbro GSL392 run in series with the stock LPFP.

Wedge flash is awesome! My virtual dyno is below with logs (19psi log was not adapted wich is reason for weaker post shift timing...I have hit 579 on VD but no where near these torque figures. I know VD is not exactly accurate but still fun. When you do a VD dyno it should be 3rd gear only....I will get a more accurate log later. I think HP figures are a lot higher than this actually, I have dynoed this before on actual dyno (HP numbers) and car is nowhere near as powerful as it is now. VERY hard to get traction and I have 295 PSS.

As @Wedge told me, 'If you're not in the 11's...you're doing something wrong'

Guy made you fall back in love with your finicky car again didn't he?!?
Pretty sure Wedge can go to a few states now and never buy his own beers...he's covered in PA, I know that much!

Is wedge flash backend for jb4 where default wastegate position is inverted?

Why does your timing drop so much post shift? You are running 15 degrees but only manage to keep 5 after the shift which means roughly 10 degrees of knock retard. If you could log with a Cobb Accessport you would probably be worried seeing those knock corrections happen.

His boost spiked at 21.9psi post-shift while his JB4 was only requesting 18.8psi. It looks like DME pulled your throttle and timing due to the unexpected boost. If post-shift boost spike is happening frequently, try raising your autoshift damper from 60 to 75 to see if that helps [a hot tip from Russ @ BMS]. Your avg Ign did raise a bit post shift but that is the only instance of this I saw in any of your logs. You may just need a few more pulls to adapt. Regardless, the post-shift timing drop is a demon that haunts most of us AT guys!

His ignition stays low when boost reaches target, around 6 degrees instead of 15-16deg. I just noticed that your log going into fifth gear is also knock retarding down to 9 degrees instead of staying up at 16 degrees. In your case there is fairly large overshooting in boost too.

I am working on that, in the 18 psi log it was pretty good, I then filed up tank and timing dipped. my car does this a lot.....after a fill up I get a timing dip sometimes then next log it is fine. I will stick with 18-18.5 no Taper I have run 21 peak to 18+ (for well over a year) Taper but not as aggressive timing curve.
