Do I need a BOV if I increased the boost on my turbos?
Hey I just installed an OTS map from Vishnu and the car feels great. I am worried though that the turbos are working overtime so just wondering what I should do to help alleviate some of the increased stress...BOV comes to mind...anything else? Thanks for the input!

As for BOV, I would upgrade the charge pipe but not for the reason you are thinking. The stock charge pipe is plastic and prone to failure, especially if boost is increased. You can go BOV, stock DVs or upgrade to Forge DVs. Mike |

I guess you “need” it insofar as you’ll want to replace the stock upper charge piping, and at that point a BOV is an option. You could just continue to use DVs, in our case the Forge DVs are popular and proven.

As people have said, the main reason for even getting a BOV is to replace the awful plastic charge pipe that cracks and pops off the throttle body at higher boost levels. Whether or not you want a BOV or DVs depends on preference. I personally think BOVs on autos is sort of pointless and sounds silly, just go with DVs. I also personally think BOVs hold boost better at higher PSIs (because nothing is being recirculated and in my estimation it would be hard to recirculate high amounts of boost) but maybe I'm wrong.

thanks for all the feedback...so where should I get my DV? sny suggestions?
on a side note I noticed that when I give some decent throttle at higher speeds my check engine light comes on and my car starts to drive "rough"...throttle response, acceleration are both affected alot...and then it goes away if I just drive normally for 5 min and the CE light turns back off...does this have to do with not having a DV and running higher boost? tks |

I would personally get a Tial Bov. It's a cheaper and reliable. It also has a mature sound. For shopping on a budget the Tial is the way to go.

Like everyone else said, best to get a chargepipe and upgraded DV setup at the least. From my experience with multiple different platforms, stock BOV/DVs don't always work or last long with above stock boost levels.
As far as which BOV to get or BOV vs DV, its all a matter of personal preference. The DVs wont give you any different performance levels from a BOV. And choice of BOV is usually based off the sound if you are buying a reputable brand. |
