Whats The Best Winter Tires for MA/Whats your winter set up
I just bought my 2007 335i coupe (e92) back in September and have the pleasure of experiencing a New England winter with a RWD car.
My current set up is Front = 225 / 40 / 18 Back = 255 / 35 / 18 After reading countless amounts of thread on this forum i noticed Blizzak's seem popular with most people. I was looking into Blizzak LM60 (performance oriented) or Blizzak WS70 (ice & snow oriented). My question to everyone is...What do you feel are the best winter tires for a 2007 e92 335i coupe and what is your exact set up (tire size/brand/type, rim size/brand/type, offset, etc)? I am a complete noob when it comes to tires and need to know what size will fit on my car and if i need to offset or do anything else Here are some listed on craigslist that I am considering. Which one do you think is the best for my car? 1) Blizzak WS60 2) Blizzak LM-25 3) Blizzak ??? |

A common size is 225/45/17. You could pick up a set of wheels from tirerack or somewhere else, or get a set of 17" BMW 3-series wheels (many people sell these when they upgrade). I have a set of BMW style 159 17" wheels with Dunlop Wintersport 3D (225/45/17). They are a good option for near Boston, but you may want a proper snow tire if you live in the burbs or where the plows come less often.
For a performance winter tires, the Dunlop Wintersport 3D/4D is fairly popular: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....inter+Sport+3D http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....inter+Sport+4D For a true snow tire, the Michelin X-ice or Blizzak WS70 is probably the best options: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes All of the E90 BMW 17" wheels should fit the 335i, and the ones that Tirerack recommends if you buy a complete from them should also fit (I think they test fit all wheels to make sure).

I moved to the area recently so this will be my first winter season here. I bought a set of Dunlop Winter Sport 4D 225/40/18 all around on my stock 162s. So far not noisy on dry. Will see how they do in the snow.
We also bought my wife a set of Michelin x-ice xi3 tires and those are definitely noisier in dry, again not sure how they will handle snow. |

Dunlop Winter 3D/4D works just as well as Blizzaks if not better
Also Continental Winter Contacts are good comparison to WS60 If you want true winter/snow tires, General Altimax Artics work amazingly well, probably the best snows I have ever had (on 2000 E39 528i) but the sidewalls are soft. |

SP Winter Sport 3D with a square set up. The narrower the better.

Just a quick update: My new set of Dunlop Winter Sport 4D has been doing great so far in the snow and ice we've received. Have not slipped once yet. I live about an hour southwest of Boston (for reference).

225/45/17 Hakkapeliitta Rs on Style 157s. Supposedly one of the best non-studded snow tires around. I thought I'd splurge on them when I decided to forgo getting an xi. They haven't let me down yet. Sidewalls are soft, but I'm ok with that.

Im having great luck on LM-25 RFT's, 17" 225-45 square set up on my RWD E92... most impressive part about them is the braking... they bite WAY harder than other snows ive run over the years and chassis codes... E30, E36, E46 and now the 92... All have had various winter set ups and i must say, the Blizzak LM25s are pretty impressive, not only with the snow grip but also the dry road handling... barely an once of squishy, although like most, im not pushing the handling envelope on my snows. Id recommend anyone in the snow tire market to strongly consider these.

I've been happy with my Pilot Alpin 3's. I don't push the limits of grip at all but they haven't lost a step in the dry or wet compared to the stock Contisport Contacts.
Even through yesterday's "storm" I had to purposely be juvenile to get the ASC lights to blink and to let me slide a bit. You do have to be careful about braking but less so than all-seasons for sure. |

Drove my wife's Accord this morning (crappy roads, but not much traffic yay!) - we bought her Michelin X-Ice tires for this winter - they are phenomenal. Handle great in the snow - I'd day better then the Dunlop Winter Sports that I have on my car. Fantastic grip with these Michelins. The Dunlops are also good but have more trouble in deeper stuff then the Michelins.

Nokians are great tires as well. Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7s are excellent tires. They are studded though.
