PCD questions

Im thinking about doing the Performace Center delivery when i order my 335, but have a few questions for those of you who have already done this. My wife is not much of a car enthusiast, but is interested in the experience just for a vacation if nothing else, i guess my question is will she be totally bored by the driving school part of this trip, have any of you brought your wifes along that were not really car people?

Also i think we would plan to drive the car back to Minnesota, im concerned about break in period and having to vary rpm's frequently, this would really suck considering the distance back to MN, would be nice to use the cruise when needed.

Oh, and one other thing, i will be getting sports package, which means sport tires, if i do this in December is this gonna be a nightmare if i hit snow on the way home. Ive driven in snow alot with my e36 m3 and did alright with kuhmo's, but not sure what those sport tires will be like in a few inches of snow, should we see any.

My understanding is that even though you take "delivery" of your car in SC, they make arrangements to ship it to you through your dealer. It's not like you have to drive it back home. Kinda like European Delivery.

Both you and your wife are going to love it. If she likes to drive at all, she'll have a blast. Plus, the education she'll (and you) get doing brake drills, skid pad and short track are good skills to practice. The X5 course is awesome, will probably freak her out, but completely safe. So, she'll have a great time. Make sure she sits up front in the M5 for the hot lap with the instructor.

Beyond that, Greenville is a nice town and we had fun hanging out.

Yes, they can ship the car back to your BMW center..but the drive through the mountains (they can give you back roads on a map!!) are priceless...

Have fun

My girl hates to drive and she had an absolute blast at the driving school. She's still talking about it 9 months later. The factory tour and museum bored her to death. I loved all of it.

As far as driving home goes, I did use the cruise a bit but kept varying the speeds.

You should be fine and you will have fun!

My wife and I were going to do the PCD. A few weeks after we ordered the car, the dealership called and said that the earliest it could be scheduled for PCD was June 26th, or I could pick it up at the dealership in on May 31st. We didn't want to wait a month to pick up the car, so we gave up on the PCD.

Just to clarify, the customer can choose to have the vehicle shipped back to the selling dealer at their expense. It is not included in the program like the European Delivery vehicles.

As for breaking in the vehicle, just keep it under 4500 rpms and 100 mph. If you decide to use cruise, just vary your speed about every 20 - 30 minutes. Taking some of the scenic routes through the mountains are perfect for breaking in the engine!

Hi Jonathan....nice to see you almost breaking 50 with your post count! Hope everyone down @ the PC is well, send my regards.

To the OP, PCD is the only way, other than ED, to take delivery of your new BMW. You can read my review here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59121

If you plan on driving your 335i in MN during the winter, I'm sure you've considered winter tires. If so, have them put on before you leave SC. Another thing to consider is that if you haven't ordered your 335i yet, maybe wait a month or 2 and arrange for a spring delivery to avoid the bad weather. At this point, if you haven't ordered your car, you will probably be looking towards the end of December until your car hits the USA, at the earliest and if you are doing PCD, probably not an available date until January.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks Steve! Figured I'd go ahead and make it 50! They keep me too busy to get on here much.

Everyone is doing great! How is the soap box car holding up?

Thank you all for the quick response, I feel alot better about both the break in period and taking my wife, i think im leaning towards just waiting till january and order the car then. This way the car will be 8 weeks or so and i should be into march and not have to worry about winter tires. As for shipping the car back, im pretty sure its at my own expense as others have said, id like to make it a longer vacation and drive back, ive never seen that part of the country and sounds like some good roads. Also, we were going to do the ED but i think have changed our minds, we have been to Europe quite a few times and told ourselves we would like to see this country alittle more before returning to Europe.

Holding up as expected, even faster on the downhill now that she's past break-in......still it after 6 months and 5000 miles!
