What's the best way to remove paint swirl by yourself? Which brand use/would? And its all over the car should I do it to the whole car?

Ehhh personally it's something I'm not brave enough to do on my own as one could easily burn right through the paint. I paid $300 for a complete detail with paint correction and sealant and I couldn't be happier.
As far as products go, I'm not too familiar with them as paint correction is something I've never done. I'd like to learn one day though. |

I've been doing professional detailing for 2 years and have done paint correction many times. At the least, you will need a porter cable or some type of DA. You can use meguairs m105 and m205. They have very good cutting power and the polish works really well too. You can pick these up locally I believe but you might have to order the porter cable online. Check out my site www.jcsautodetailing.net
And $300 is a pretty fair price that's what I start at with on coupes depending on condition, color, etc |

Porter cable 7424xp. You can't burn paint with this no matter how hard you try. Try www.autogeek.net . I use Wolfgang swirl remover 3.0 then glaze is optional then sealant. Use orange cutting pad with swirl remover, white polishing pad with glaze and blue pad with sealant. Get the citrus pad cleaner too. All this is less than $300 and you can detail over and over and save money. They have videos on how to do everything

My car was delivered with brutal swirling. Dealer paid to take it to Autobahn (Bathurst &407 area). Car was perfect after that. Ive been cleaning/detailing my own cars for 35 years and have never had the nerve to try power tools on my car. If you want to try then Autobahn has Menzerna which is also supposed to be great ...they use it. I would let them do it....thats just me.

Just do it yourself, nothing more satisfying. The biggest bitch of a job but when you're finished but there's nothing like it.
Couple times a year I try to: I claybar, Wash off all the old wax (Dawn), Polish, Wash, Wax, been using NXT which is amazing. used it on my benz as well, really good wax. Literally a full days work.... But if you ever, and i mean EVER, come across Zaino products. Those products are whole new level and results, if applied correctly are mind blowing. Just my opinion. |

Get yourself a Porter Cable polisher and use an orange pad with M105 and a White pad with Menzerna SF4000. Guarantee that polish finishes down perfect on bmw paint, I haven't had the same luck with m205.

I did it with a PC 7424xp and an M105/M205 combo. It wasn't perfect, and I should have ordered more pads than I did, but my wife's G35 looked nice when finished. I do sometimes wish I had a paint measurement to see how much clear coat is left though, before doing any more.

Try going online to Harbor Freight. They have a DA polisher for like $50, I bought it when it was $65. I have used it a few times and works great.
I did the M105 and M205 combo. Mistake I made was doing too big of an area. Take your time, small working area at a time! I think M105 is too much though. I used about a dime size and will probably never use it again. If I were you...get a DA (your choice), pad set, M205, NXT 2.0. And enjoy! |

Lets make it easy and cheap
Get the 25% off coupon code for Harbor Frieght. Right now all I see is 20%, but I know there are 25% ones out there as I just got that code last week and printed out 5 copies to use in store and it is good till Jan 2014. Buy this DA polisher if you're not looking to spend much. It'll get the job done fine. I have a Maguaries DA and the HF and end result on the paint is the same. However, I paid $42 for the Harbor Frieght and I think @$150 for the Maguaires. I also live near an HF store and paid @$15 for a 2 year warranty. It breaks, I take it in and they give me a new one. http://www.harborfreight.com/6-in-va...her-69924.html Get this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . Has all the cutting and polishing pad you need, the correct backing plate for it and correction/polishing compound. And I think you can get everything done with the 5" size....not too big, not too small. Average is good! Just be sure to clean out and fluff up the pads often. |

There are a few things I'd like to cover and suggest.
1. What color is your BMW? Jet black is super soft clear coat, where as all the rest are extremely hard. And how bad are your swirls? How high of a correction rate are you trying to achieve? 2. While the Harbor Freight polisher is a great value, it is not as powerful as say the Griots Garage 6" Polisher. More power = more correction power = less work. Still a lot of work to correct paint, but getting the GG DA will cut your time down severely. 3. Get a 5" backing plate and use 5"-5.5" pads. A smaller pad has less mass on the outside, therefore needing less power to turn the same amount of rotations. This means extra correction power. 4. Pads. I'm going to go off of probability that you don't have a Jet Black BMW. Which means HARD clear coat. Get yourself some purple Lake Country wool pads (short fibers). This will be for your compounding stage. For your polishing stage, get a finishing polish pad. 5. Compound/Polish. M105 is really abrasive and is my go to for hard paint, however it is a bit finicky to work with compared to the consumer version: Ultimate Compound. M205 is super easy to work with. I would suggest for ease of use, get Ultimate Compound and M205(or Swirl X). By ease of use I mean, M105 dusts A LOT. Usually I wash the entire car before I apply wax. M105 also requires you to work the product until it flashes for easy removal. If you don't work the product long enough, it is some what difficult to wipe off. So, if you have Jet Black paint, you could go the frugal route and get a HF DA. But all other paint colors, I would strongly advise spending $120 for a GG DA, get a 5" backing plate with short nap wool pads and a polishing foam pad. While I do not have the GG DA, I do have the Porter Cable which is maybe $20 cheaper. But what I did not know at the time of purchase was that GG is supplied with an 850watt motor vs Porter Cable 500watt. Did I mention life time warranty for GG? Anyway, if you do decide to take on this job yourself, you will, as a matter of fact, acquire a new addiction called the detailing addiction. And so I suggest again, to do it right the first time and not have to regret buying a crappy tool. After all, you did afford a BMW, what is a couple hundred bucks? ![]() Let me know if you have any questions! Keep us posted! Hope to see some before and after pics! ![]() Last edited by PTek Will; 12-04-2013 at 11:48 AM.. |
