Its new, i picked up the the 8500 from best buy on the first day of their sale (monday) for $199. Seems like a solid unit and works good so far.

Do people really use radar detectors these days? I just think with the advancement in laser equipment that law enforcement run pretty much 99%, that by the time the these detectors pick it up you are already SOL.

My 2 cents. I was always interested in spending the money doing the laser jamming (plus a switch to turn it off) and just call it a day...thoughts?

99% of the time? Maybe 20% in large cities... at the most. laser is harder to use and cost more. at least 80% of cops are still going to be running k/ka band radar. they might be using harder to detect instant on, but that is why you need a good detector.

and besides, it is pretty easy to spot a cop using laser, since they have to be holding the gun still and aim it right at you at a reflective part of your car.

lol... maybe where you're at they just use laser but where I'm at and "99%" of other places, most use radar primarily. If you're looking to get a laser jammer system, you're gonna drop a minimum 1000 for a decent system so at that point why wouldn't you get a radar detector on top of that?

It depends on the area you live in. I hear texas is very laser heavy and laser jammers are illegal there. Where I live I hardly ever see laser and it is mostly radar. That being said a good dual laser jammer pays for itself with one hit.

laser jammers are indeed illegal here, certain parts of the freeway and tollways are laser heavy, but the cops are usually easy to spot. but using a jammer like the laser interceptor and shutting it off after you slow down should keep them off you
