**New video**Hearing a rattle noise on n55 335xi w/video
So lately I've notice this rattle noise coming from the rt side of the engine bay and concerned its my turbos going bad or possibly my stock charge pipe. Haven't had any codes come up at all and its all stick aside from the injen intake I bought pretty cheap. Any ideas what it can be? Tried searching the forums but nothing gave me an answer. Let me know guys what you think

Your video doesn't work, it says private...but I'm guessing your having the problems I am and that means its waste gate rattle.

I have the same rattle, mine is only there on cold start and goes away when warm. If someone figures out what it is, please share!

Based on what I've read, the rattle associated with cold starts disappearing after closed loop is wastegate related. OP and ry335, how many miles do you guys have?

Bought the car with 18k on it and now i have 21k on it. I just took it to the dealer last week for the same problem and of course they didn't find anything wrong with it going back tomorrow to the dealer

I do notice the noise going away or engine bay quitting once the car warms up. Another thing wanted to add and it could be a coincidents but noticed it only after I installed the Injen cold air intake which was last weekend. Like everyone when they get a new mod, went out and did a few WOT runs on the highway and had a stall between gears one and two. Also noticed something coming up on the dash but it went away before I could notice what it was. Its probably traction control warning but non the less the stutter/pause cannot be normal.
At first I was sure or at least I was leaning towards the shit charge pipe BMW uses crapped out so ordered a ets charge pipe that Im waiting on to arrive. Also has anyone had warranty issues with leaving your cold air intake on? |

Just put a new video up. The rattle doesn't begin till 1 min into the video. This shit is really annoying me. Even had my sister who has an s4 BTW asked why it sounds this way. Is this really normal?? And if so why am I just hearing it? All BMW can tell me is that the noise is normal. Seriously telling me my $45k car sounds like shit and your agreeing that its normal?

Pissed because I've barely had this car for one month. Luckily I am still under the full warranty. BTW, I'm all stock except for the Injen intake. Which wanted to ask you guys should I return back to the stock airbox or not really a big deal??

I was gonna say turn off your Ducati so we can hear the car but the dry clutches on those damn things don't sound like that at idle. lol
That doesn't sound like a wastegate rattle to me. Almost sounds like your lifters but more metallic. I'm not expert on N55's (much less N54's but I'm doing my best to search and read as much as I can), but if it isn't belt related the next place I'd inspect under the engine top cover to see if you can isolate it to the top part of the engine itself. If that isn't it then I'm out of ideas.
