Possible Disa Problem

Hey everyone, in October, I did a 3 stage intake manifold swap and got the active autowerke tune. I was just under 100k at that time and now I'm around 102k and change. Recently I've been noticing a whine coming from my engine bay after do a few hard pulls, nothing too serious, just some spirited driving. I notice that when I stop a light and start rolling slowly, roughly between 700-1200 rpm, it starts to whine.

When I try to recreate it, sometimes I get it, sometimes I don't. Though it could be my imagination but I seem to be getting a longer than usual acceleration lag. Also, in every other respect, the car seems to drive and sound fine.

Changing the spark plugs and getting an oil change as well. Anyone know how to test the disa valves? Also, from what I've seen, it's impossible to get #2 out without pulling the manifold.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

No harm in replacing the DISA valves.

Going to be tough since you can't recreate it every time, but can you get a video/recording of the sound? Probably wont help much, but you never know.

I have the same problem and my mechanic says its most likely the DISA valve. Doesn't really effect my ride quality so he says there is no real need to replace it. The damn thing is about 500 to replace.

Replace it. You dont want chunks of plastic breaking off and making their way into the combustion chamber.

I was planning to do my flywheel/clutch and then the 3-stage manifold upgrade on my 325i, but realized it'd be a lot easier to remove the transmission if I got the intake manifold out of the way, so went ahead and ordered the remaining parts I needed which is both DISA's, hose and fasteners.

I tried getting used ones, but that proved very difficult to do and with this kinda part, probably not really the best idea anyway. Especially considering the few places I found were trying to charge far too close to what a brand new unit cost.

Least expensive place I found was BMWMercedasparts.com

$246

And

$246

This beats every other place I looked at by a pretty good margin. I ordered it last Wednesday and it is still "processing" as of today. Yesterday, they charged my card so I was thinking it'd get shipped soonish, but I think they already closed for the day and nothing. They are a BMW dealership though and they do say shipping takes 8 to 10 days, so not too worried. All their prices is pretty good even after shipping, you just need to buy way ahead of time. I think they got one guy working their online sales thing and he probably does a very good job, but it's just the one guy. But I'll deal with that if they keep the cost down

Yea the ride quality hasn't changed but I definitely don't want plastic getting loose.

My order is still "processing" so just warning you these guys take a while. So far, it's been 8 days. I think they drop-ship. Probably a lot of the OEM sellers do, not sure about Tischer. Doesn't matter to me, considering I am saving about $65 from the next least expensive place I know of and am leaving the country in a few days till after Christmas anyway. But if you were looking to get this done ASAP, maybe a problem.

I don't see how the DISA valves could whine.

Did you look at the valves when you installed the 3 stage manifold?
I had my outboard one break completely off. Just caused a rattle and a different power band.

I'm not getting any shaking or change in power. Just the whining noise now and then.
