Performance Shop in CT/NY Area

Hey All,

I'm currently living on the NY/CT border.

I want to go full bolt ons, including RB turbos, and tuning with a cobb accessport for my 2009 335xi 6MT.

Where are the closest shops that work on/specialize in 335's? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Not sure of how North/South you are on that border, but Munich Motorsports in South Windsor, CT is a great shop. Both Aaron and Pete know their shiz.

ACI Dynamix in Seymour CT is a great shop. About 45 minutes from where I live and the owner has a 135i with a custom widebody that is FBO. The prices are lower than any other BMW shop i've been to since he is very fair with labor rates and does not tack on a BMW tax. If you want the phone number, email, or more info shoot me a PM and i'll send you that stuff although the link in my sig should work. Tell him Peter sent you and he'll take care of you

Edit: Also wanted to give a +1 for MNC in oceanside. They've worked on my car too and have been awesome. They're a bit further away from me and a bit more expensive labor wise but they do a great job if you would prefer a shop like that

Thanks for all the responses.

Are there any places that dyno tune or specialize in the Cobb AP?

I'm in Brewster NY currently. 10509.

What modifications have you guys had these shops do? Want to get an idea of their overall knowledge.

I've had ACI do pretty much everything on my car. XI DP's, FMIC, KW V1, Exhaust, installing my front lip, and all the maintenance. They work on N54's all the time and work on a lot of other cars too. They're currently doing a engine swap of a B6 S4 I believe. This is the owner's 135i:

And here's his GTR:

And lastly a pic of the shop. It is by far one of the cleanest shops i've ever been to. I've never pulled in and seen it in a mess with tools all over the place. I've also left my car there for a long period of time and gotten it back perfectly clean. I left my car at some other shops and got it back covered in dust and it had these sticky black spots all over it.

In terms of MNC they are specifically a BMW shop and do a ton of work on BMW. I'm pretty sure both Martin (the owner) and Kevin (I think that's the name of the other guy..) are certified BMW master tech's. If you go to their instagram you can see pics of the work they do on a daily basis. They constantly have engines a part, clutch jobs, etc... They're also working on doing a custom E30 M3 with a ton of chassis reinforcement and a fully built N54 block with a custom single turbo.

Edit: Neither of these shops dyno tune or specifically know a ton about COBB. They both are more JB4 shops and don't really custom tune. You're best bet if you want to custom tune is PTF and you can do an E-tune with them. Numerous people on here have done those with amazing results

I'm still relatively new to the BMW scene so I went with Cobb as I came from Subarus.

Is the JB4 what you use as engine management? How do you tune for your parts? Is there a tuner at either of the shops you mentioned?

I don't want to install RB turbos and full bolt ons and not be able to tune the car for the parts.

EDIT: I have also noticed that some people are using JB4 along with Cobb AP's. Can anyone help me understand why this is? How does it work? What are the benefits over a Cobb AP flash? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

JB4 is basically a boost controller (a very good one by the way). I have it but I also came from Subaru and used Cobb ATR extensively on my 09 WRX and my 11 STI. I know that the JB4 doesn't have any control of fuel, it has some input on timing but don't fully understand how. If you want to add timing and fuel you will need a flash which the JB4 can't do. Again, I have the JB4 and it does have very effective boost control. What a lot of people do is stack the two using the JB for boost control and the Cobb or another flash tool for timing and fuel. Does that answer you question?

Most people use the JB4 because it's cheap and has a ton of features you can't get from flashes. You can switch to different maps on the fly while driving with the steering wheel, you can make the gas gauge a boost gauge in the dash, etc... The majority of people on here run a JB4 with a backend flash that is done either from cobb or free open source flashing software. You don't have specific tunes for different mods, instead you have maps. For example stock or intake only and you will use map 1 which is 13 PSI. If you get downpipes you can pump it up to map 2 which is 14.5 PSI. If you have E85 you may go to map 5 which will autotune to the octane and you could see up to 17 psi, etc...

Both are great options, IMHO.

...They definitely work nicely together as well.

+1 for MNC they are the only guys I trust to touch my car.. Had them do my exhaust, chargepipe, intercooler, and xi downpipes.. Honestly they are very affordable when I was about to get all the work done I got quotes from many shops and MNC was the cheapest and with their experience it was a no brainer for me

+1 for Subies! I am currently swapping my 2012 WRX for a 2011 335i xDrive.

I always used EFI Logics for my Subie tuning; I wonder if they do BMW's? From my experience (with subies), they are the best shop in the area. I'm coming from Norwalk, CT.

Speedsport Tuning in Danbury

A few people at my office go there for their S4, S6, RS4, RS6, 911, M3, M6, and WRX Sti. I've never used them personally.

There you go! I did go there with my 04 r32 to get rid of the resonator.. they wouldn't touch it, said "its not their thing." I said " are you sure, I'm going to pay you, it's not too difficult." Lol I walked out confused.

+1 for ACI Dynamix, it's a great shop that I happily make a short commute to when I need or want something done. The owner knows these cars so well through experience working on so many that come to him in addition to his own project car.

His prices are more than fair, there is no sales pressure, they just want to make sure you have the car built and maintained to your liking. The shop is always spotless, their work is excellent, and they get things done quickly too (not to be confused with reckless).
