Surely laser radar detectors can't work..?
Given that the cop's laser beam travels from his gun to your car and back at the speed of light and doubtless calculates your road speed with similar rapidity, what use is a laser detector? Surely once it has detected you're being zapped, it's already too late.
Or am I missing something?

No, you're not missing anything at all. When you get hit with a laser warning, you're done.
That's why you have to go with a laser jammer. You'll get hit the same way, but if everything works properly, your jammer will go off, you slow down, then flip the off switch a let the cop get a proper reading. This time with you going the speed limit.

I've been putting off getting a jammer for about 6 months. I think I'm probably going to go with the Passport ZR3 shfter, only because I already have a Passport 8500 X50 detector. I wouldn't need the display for the Shifter, since it is operated through the 8500. The other reason I'd go this route is because the front diffusers on the Shifter don't need a "clear line of site", and they would be able to be placed behind the plastic lower grills. The Blinder diffussers have to be totally clear, so you would most likely have to cut. I know the Blinder is the better unit for jamming, but for convenience sake I'll def be going with the Shifter.

Laser detection is only useful in the really off chance that some scatter hits you from another vehicle. Laser jammers are your best defense though. I had the ZR3 on my WRX and it saved me many, many times!
