Talking Look at my knob everybody! :D

Just swapped my shift knob with the ZHP knob and I have to say, it is amazing! The feel is so slick and so precise. I could never comfortably shift the stock knob. It's too long and the shape of it is too awkward. This knob just feels so ergonomically correct. I remember when I had my WRX, I went through so many different knobs and could never find one that just felt perfect. This one is it! All the rubbery-ness and juddery feel is gone. It is weighted perfectly and really gives the snik-snik feel between shifts. 1st to 2nd is much smoother and feels very precise. For $70, I would say that it is a must for anyone using the stocker. Have to see if this shaves some milliseconds off of my 1/4 mile!!!

Sexy time #1:

Sexy time #2:

The stocker in all her glory:

First tug the lower left of the boot towards the right:

Then lift gently:

Repeat on the right:

The boot will easily come off:

It's the vampire Count Shift knob!:

Agggghhh!

Or a crazy mutant plant:

My technique for removing the stocker is simple.

Move both front seats back as far as possible.

Straddle the knob... LOL

Sit on the arm rest.

Open the sunroof so your head has room.

Grasp the knob... LOL

Use the most powerful muscles in your body... your legs

Pull up and the stocker comes off instantly...

The slot mates with the knob to keep it aligned correctly. As such, the knob will always be straight:

The slot for my knob... LOL

The ridge around the base is what holds the knob in place.

Some booty:

Just put the knob on and push down and it will clip into place around the ring at the base of the shaft which will hold your knob... LOL

Et voila:

Why did u take the shift boot off to just install the zhp knob? If u push "down" on the stock knob first then give it a quick pull up, it will come right off. I didn't have to remove my shift boot at all.

I have the same knob and it makes a world of difference... I love it!

I wish the sport knob (w/perforated leather) was weighted like this one.

Nice DIY btw!

I'm not sure what the part number is. But I know that this knob is no longer manufactured. I bought it from a vendor on EBay:

You are absolutely right. I just pulled it all off because I wanted to see what was going on down there. Incredible amounts of sound damping material to keep tranny noise to a minimum...

Part number is listed in my "Playing with Knobs" thread. AKA "Old" E46 ///M Knob.

A very nice OEM knob. Now all you have to do is get the Tri-coloured M3 steering wheel which will match perfectly with this knob:
