Question about iPhone and GSM noise
I will need to buy a new phone to work with Bluetooth in the 08' 335 I just bought. Since I use Macs at home and at work it makes sense to buy an iPhone BUT, it is GSM and GSM interferes with audio systems.
Does anyone have any experience with the iPhone in your BMW and what other phones/carriers do you recommend. I am currently with Sprint and willing to change but want to make the right choice. |

No "fake hysteria" at all. GSM absolutely causes interference in audio systems in the form of a buzzing sound coming from a speaker that has a voice coil. This is absolutely fact.
Now, some systems are more susceptible to the interference by GSM polling. Others are less so due to the shielding these systems employ. So if my concern about a technologies know deficits can be considered "fake hysteria" then so be it. It just appears one can not have an intelligent decision here without someone leaving comments that are not helpful but also verge on attacking for no reason at all other than to boost their own fragile egos. My original question was quite simple...Do people who OWN AND USE and Apple iPhone experience GSM buzz when using Bluetooth in their BMW. Simple. |

Nothing worse than being on a conference call and somebody has a crackberry too close to their land line.. the noise drives me nuts... my blackberry used to screw with my honda's radio, but only every once in a while. Good luck with it.

My best friend has an iPhone. I have definitely heard the "GSM noise" whenever he puts the phone close to speakers attached to a computer. Definite interference. We don't get that with our CDMA phones.
As for the car, I have never heard interference from the iPhone either when I ride with him or when he rides with me. I know he has used the phone to surf the web as I was driving us. I don't remember hearing any interference on the audio system. |

I've had a bunch of GSM phones and I've never had trouble with GSM buzz in any of my cars (E34, E46, E92). Computer speakers, sure. Conference room speakerphones, all the time. Cars, nope.
I'd imagine European automotive electronics have been designed around GSM buzz for a while now. |

Thanks -
I want to get an iPhone but have held off becuase I was worried about GSM. But since I use Macs at home and at work it makes sense for me to get it. Also, for those that use their iPhone with the ipod adapter...does the music fade out when a call comes in like the demos i have seen? Any other outstanding issues you can think of? Thanks - Richard in Nashville |

Just to chime in as well. My iPhone works great in my 335i, no interference at all. It interfere with a lot of other things, but not the car.
