order ipod option or no?

I am ordering my car this week but I am confused about how it will work and my search didnt help me out so sorry if I am reposting. I have a 30gb ipod video with well over 3000 songs on it along with several videos. I have read about some ipod kit that limited the number of songs you have access to. I certainly want to access all my songs on the new car and navigate them through the idrive.
Does the factory installed option allow this?

Is there anyway to ever be able to see the videos on there and also control through idrive?aftermarket?

If I had iDrive, I'd have the iPod package. As I don't have the iDrive (i do have logic7 sound) I just use the aux input. Works great.

Is 6FL the option code? my saleman doesnt seem to sharp so I dont really trust what she says about the options. do you control it with idrive to go through songs? and is there a limitation on how many songs you can access?

I have the MOST iPod integration option, which was the old BMW retrofit. I am limited to 500 artists, songs, etc... per listing.

I don't think there is a limitation for the 6FL...

Someone who has the 6FL (*envy*) please confirm.

the 6fl is the best option i have on my car.. I have a 80bg ipod video, well over 6000 songs and they all appear.. the onli restirction is over 20,000 songs... the videos dont work and il still trynna find a hack...
but get it, u will def regret it if you dont. and make sure the dealer gives u a y cable with ur car. the y cable connects the ipod to ur car.

I have 6FL and there is no limit.

You won't regret gettng it. I don't miss the old way my last 2 BMW's worked with the re-fit in the glove box and the BMW1...etc playlists at all.

I am sold! thanks for the input. I was just confused bc on my e46 i bought a dension unit bc i didnt have nav and liked the controlabilty better, but this sounds good. I appreciate it

Yes, it displays song titles on the I-Drive screen.

Personally, I use my 6FL with a 16GB Flash drive. Just put mp3 files on it. This way, I don't have to keep my expensive iPod in the car. And a flash drive should live up to the environmental conditions better than an iPod with moving parts will.
