Advice! waste gate rattle 08 335i
I just bought a 2008 335i 6mt and absolutely love it! However, after owning the car for a few days I noticed how loud it has been rattling. I did some research and found a lot of people have this same problem with the turbos/waste gate and I saw one guy said to disconnect the vacuum hose and listen to see if the rattle goes away. I did this and the rattle 100% went away. So now when I go to the dealer and tell them about this problem, even tho the new car warranty no long exist, the bmw dealer will take care of it under some extended warranty??? Has anyone else went through this same situation? The rattle drives me insane

The dealer fixed the problem for me with extended warranty. It eventually came back but not as drastic as the first time. I just unplugged the vacuum hose in the trunk and it hasn't rattled since.

As stated above - A BMW dealership should fix this issue as I believe the warranty for the wastegates were extended up to 84,000 miles.
More than likely they will adjust the wastegate actuators and if the issue persists they will then replace the actuators. But be prepared for the noise to come back. I have had mine adjusted twice and replaced once and I still have the rattle.

The rattle he is referring to is exhaust flap rattle, not wastegate rattle. |

I am getting the (real) wastegate rattle on my CPO 2011 335 (N55) that I picked up a week ago with only 23k miles. I guess they never bothered fixing the actuator problem with the newer ones either. They think driving a 55k car (that was sticker on my car) with a clunking noise is normal and people will get hypnotized by it or something. Fricking BMW. Now I have to bring it back. The rattle is terribly loud when the car is cold, but it's still there when it warms up, just not as loud.
Anyone else have the wastegate rattle with an N55? Harry |
