SSTT Installation Problem

I can't believe it. I broke the TMAP clip:sad0147:
It took 5 seconds to locate the connector. About 5 more to feel the locking indent in the clip which I could lift up with my finger nail. Got a small flat head screwdriver, and gently lifted the clip to see how it works. Put my left hand in to hold the screw driver and lift while pulling on the wires and heard a very faint sound like something droped and hit something. Took my flashlight to look and I broke off the tab!!!! I do have to admit that this makes installation very easy! Now the SSTT and the stock connector pulls right out and pushes right in. I read the DIY and was very careful. That clip tab is very fragile.

So, should I worry about the locking tab? I will put some electrical tape around the SSTT wires and wrap it up to the top of the TMAP sensor to keep it in place. What does it cost to replace the TMAP sensor? Can you just replace the clip. I am so pissed I broke it off.

Went for a drive and could not tell it was installed. Power delivery felt smooth like stock. When it hit the accelerator, the power was also very smooth and pulled strong to redline. Not a huge difference in power, but you could feel the car pulled stronger than stock. We will see what a few hours does to the ECU.

Moral of the story: Be careful with the locking tab!

man sorry to hear that. not a big deal.

i would get a new TMAP sensor, as its all one piece.
but as long as the ECU wire and turbo tuner can stay put onto the TMAP sensor, you wont have any issues, if it comes off, you'll get a engine light come on, so u will know it has come off.

good luck, no need to worry

Same thing happened to me. Jeff@eurobahn said he wasn't too concerned and I'm inclined to agree. The compression fit of the TT into the TMAP port seems pretty tight. I went on a 30 mile drive after I installed the TT over smooth and bumpy roads and checked the fit when I got back and nothing had changed.

Thanks for the reassurance. I will try to source some high temp electrical tape. What will happen if the connection is loose or comes off? Just no boost but drivable?

Install idea

I did my whole install in less than 2 minutes. Spent 10 thinking about it, but 2 working. I slipped a quarter (yup, 2 bits, $.25) under the TMAP clip, and then pulled the whole assembly appart. Quarter dropped right into my hand, then installed the SSTT. With my big mitts and forearm, there was no way to get another hand down there. I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone that needs to install or take theirs out for any reason.

broke mine too unfortuately =( it came loose at one point on my drive from miami to newyork for college and i just popped the hood and saw it was out just a tad, pushed it back in and the "half engine" picture went away. its a tight fit and not a difficult fix

That sensor clip is a total POS! I snapped mine off when I installed my BOV. I was in a rush and pryed it up with a screw driver to slide it out and since the plastic is so thin it just snapped. Due to the fact that i'm anal about stuff like that I just bit the bullet and ordered a new one, which was around 80 or 85 shipped from crownauto.com. I don't think that you need to replace it since it was a pretty tight fit on that clip, but I just did it for peace of mind since its an important sensor as far as boost and fuel goes.

I would replace the sensor. If ever there was a warranty issue and the dealer went looking for aftermarket parts to blame the failure on, you would have a tell-tale sign. While you could deny it it seems worth the $$ to me to avoid that possibility.

How hard is it to replace the sensor?

Yeah, its only held in with two screws. Unscrew them and you can pull it out.

broke my clip too... no big deal. It's a really tight fit, but i threw on a zip tie going from the tmap sensor to the sstt plug just to hold it in place. I'll try and take a pic and post it later so u can see what i mean... It won't go anywhere if u do that

the best way from preventing snapping the CLIP
1.) use a penny/dime or guitar pick. this items will give better feel and easier to lift the tab without overdoing it.
2.) get someone to help you pull the plug while u lift. the plug has a rubber tight fit so make sure u pull the plug with a little bit of force before u decide u need to lift the tab higher.
3.)remove the airbox so have better room.(this is not necessary)
here are the instructions to remove the airbox. im my experience u do not have to remove the plastic electric housing and the hard plastic round line.
http://www.activeautowerke.com/faq/A...ff%20valve.pdf
just remove the front and rear air houses by clamps and than remove the lid and air filter and lift off of the 3 gromments. one is right in the front in the middle of the air box housing. start with this one. but agian is this the long way and not necessary by any means at all.
