Blizzak ws-70s

I've got a great deal on 4, almost new blizzak ws-70s, the guy is asking $450. I was planning on getting a higher performance snow tire like the lm-32, but this is a good deal. Anyone have these? I live in upstate NY, drive a 335xi, tuned heavily. Will I regret such an aggressive snow tire?

I'm not sure about your conditions in the winter, but if you want the best when its the worst, WS70 is almost as good as you can get.

If you dont mind trading up some of the snow and ice performance for more responsiveness on dry and wet roads, then the performance tires are a better choice.

I live in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area), and the day after the worst of the storms, the roads are plowed; we spend more time on dry and wet roads. I use WS70 cause they were less expensive lol.

Honestly the WS70 is a pretty solid choice for winter. Most people would be happy with that choice for winter.

I run them on my 335i Non-x drive and we have lots of snow here. I can get anywhere with these tires I need to go. Of course clearance becomes my first issue if snow piles too high.

I love them!

I just got them a few weeks ago. They're super comfortable and quiet.

I got them over the Lm-60's because realistically I will not be doing any performance oriented driving during the winter. Didn't feel the need to spend the extra cash.

Deciding between performance snows and the more aggressive snow tires can be a tough choice. I doubt you would regret using a tire like the Blizzak WS70 in upstate New York unless perhaps this season ends up being one with much fewer than average winter snow events.

Had a set of WS60 on my GTO, and they handled the wrath of the Adirondack park for two seasons without an issue. I can only imagine the updated '70s would perform better.

In an xi you will have people stranded in their all-season equipped CRVs and RAV4's asking you for a tow.

edit: I still own those tires and they just might end up on my 161's for next winter if I decide to break down and get the proper TPMS sensors.

i just installed these tires over the weekend so i could make it to the mountains this winter. the roads are pretty decent around here still. one thing i have noticed so far (no snow, just cold), the traction light comes on A LOT more often. granted these tires are narrower than my summer tires (275/30/19 > 225/45/17), i wasnt expecting traction lights on dry roads in 3rd & 4th gear...

anyone experience similar?

Mine did the same thing when I first put them on but they dont seem to be as bad about it anymore. Probably because its colder now in general. Or it might be the shock of going to these from super sports? Anyhow, the colder it gets, the better they handle. When it gets up around 50, they get pretty squishy.

Very typical. Tire wear on the rear is terrible with the WS70. I expect to only get two winters (approximately 12,000 miles) out of a set before all four are below the first set of wear bars. Once the Blizzaks hit that first wear bar they turn from great snow/ice tires into pretty marginal ones.

That's so strange...I run Cobb Stage 1 - Aggressive and my winter tires get as much, if not more, straight line traction than my DWS setup. So far that holds true in temps ranging from 25*F - 70*F. Never seen the traction control light come on once with these tires, even when trying to get them to break loose from 2nd gear on up.

i'm talking 4th, 5th, 6th gear cruising 60-70mph & give it gas to pass someone (not wot). tires probably have 400 miles or so on em now & still doing it. i thought maybe a bad tpms but doubt it. i've reset the sensors using the bc stalk. i'm gonna try & play w/ pressures & see if that helps.

would a slipping clutch act like that? it doesn't smell like clutch... i wouldnt think so, just throwing ideas out there.

it is REALLY annoying, to say the least.

on lunch i cleared the dsc module codes w/ my bt cable. it had 7 or so codes from who knows when/how long ago so i figured start fresh.

i got dsc to come on/off once while at lunch. checked the module & had a "655b" code (no description), but i cant find any cross reference online. i'll do some more driving next few days & recheck the module.

to be continued...
