Automatic slipping?
2007 E91 328i with 102,000 miles. Last week it stopped downshifting in manual mode, however I believe that is due to the crimped/cut control wire issue (haven't opened it up yet).
Since then I've been driving it DS mode. Today after my 25 mile commute home, I punched it WOT around a corner and it seemed like it was almost freewheeling between gears and trying to shift. What is going on? I couldn't get it to replicate and I've read these GM hydromatics have a pretty good track record and low failure rate. Ideas?

Are you sure you weren't just roasting your inside wheel? I would think that if it slipped around a corner that you could replicate it by driving straight ahead, which puts more stress on the drive components since the wheels won't slip as easily. If you are concerned, you might try to make some "pulls" and report back what you feel.

Oh, and I have Pilot Super Sports that won't break lose unless it's cold out. It was 80 here yesterday. I'll try some more pulls today and report back.

You have really good tires but just in case you should check the wear on them. Other then that it could be the open dif that was giving you a problem on the turn. Try with full traction control, half on and completely off. I sometimes lose traction when I shift from 1st to 2nd WOT when my super sports aren't properly warmed up. But that happens because the sudden loss of power then full power again when I shift gears.

Did some WOT pulls this morning and couldn't replicate. Should probably get the fluid changed anyway, so I'll plan on that.
