N55 jb4 which map to run stock
Just installed my jb4 stage 2 and I'm confused which map to run map 1 is for stock application but map 4 says stock and CAN active...I have the CAN enable so should I run map 4?
I know map 5 is auto tune and can run more boost...so waiting to run that until bored with map 1 and 4 |

It depends on the mods you have and the fuel you use. If your car is stock use Map 1. Map 4 is stock boost levels with CAN active. So if you have a cat-less downpipe and auto clear is on, you won't get a cell. Map 5 is best if you have aftermarket bolt on's and higher octane fuel, E85 or mix an octane booster. These are basic rules to follow. I also wouldn't recommend running map 2 unless you have cat-less downpipes and higher octane fuel.

Map 0 and Map 4 are the stock maps. Map 0 is the stock bypass map for dealership visits. Run Map 4 if you want to drive around with stock-like settings.

Run map 1 or map 5.
Map 0 and map 4 will not add any power to your car. By stock they mean stock power. But maps recommended for stock cars are map 1 and map 5

I just had mine installed for 2 weeks now and you'll be happier running map5. If you can get fuel running higher octane even better for the seat of your pants experience.

Would you recommend map1 or map5 or either, and why?

I recently installed JB4 S2 on an otherwise stock 335i. I have tried both map 1 and map 5 and map 5 is better. I think for most people, map 5 is the way to go because, as you add performance gear, the JB4 will adapt and adjust settings accordingly. So you can continue with map5 as you add intake, FMIC, downpipe, exhaust, etc.

I always recommend map 5 for daily driving no matter what your mods are.

Sounds like even with just 93 octane & BMW PE, there is no good reason not to do map5 over map1 (other than consistency from a preset tune). Interesting idea with map6 as valet.

However, the JB4 has been around for quite some time so its not like its a brand new product or anything. Thousands have been running the JB4 successfully for many years. Its a proven product. But there are no guarantees - one of your parts may have a manufacturing defect. The defect may show up sooner when running the JB4 and later if you don't run it but it will still show up eventually. You are overthinking this way too much!!! |
