Weird Misfire (Service Engine Soon)
Hey guys I am new to the E90.
I just bought a 2010 328i M Sport SULEV (N51 engine) auto with paddle shifters with about 33k miles on the clock for my fiancé after selling her E46. The car has been great so far and has run perfectly until today. I was pulling of from a red-light with the car in sport and using the paddle shifters. I did a pull through the first 3 gears or so and then backed off. Suddenly the SES light came on and the car started to bog down. It felt like it was maybe running on 3 or 4 cylinders. So I pulled over and put the car in park and let it idle for a minute. It idled very rough but never died. I turned the car of and back on thinking maybe I had put it in some kind of limp mode. When I turned the car back on it ran perfectly fine and the SES light was gone. I drove around the rest of the day and never had anymore problems even when doing a hard pull through all the gears. Just wondering if anybody has had this happen before or maybe has more insight into the issue. I would like to get anything the car needs repaired done before it goes out of warranty in a few months.

It's a misfire in your cylinders just scan the car and check which Cylinder is misfiring all you have to do is replace the coil in the mis firing cylinder and bam your good untill another coil goes out lol I've had 4 coils go out not all at once but once every 1 or 2 months and I'm slowly replacing them it's really easy replacing your coils just look up a diy

Heh, interestingly enough... I did the exact same thing yesterday, and it was pretty much the exact same scenario.
Was at a light on a long straight road, went full throttle through a few gears, and then left off. SES light was on.. pulled over, and car was idling very rough. But just like yours, it never died down. I carry an OBD2 bluetooth adapter with me all the time, so I pulled the code right away. Cylinder 3 Misfire. Cleared it.. shut off the engine.. and when I started her back up, everything was back to being perfectly normal. I drove lightly (read: like a normal person) the rest of the day, and there's been no new codes or anything else acting up.

Mine never died either I just cut it off. Strange. I believe that the weird idle with the SES is limp mode. My car is still under warranty so I am going to have the dealership look into it.

These are also the symptoms of faulty Vanos Solenoids. I have the same issue with my N52. My car doesn't die either but it will stay there and twerk like an idiot.
I find this happens after long drives of 30 mins or more. |
