How to paint/wrap interior trim!
Hi guys,
Got my new interior trim here ready to go in! But I'm going to wrap/paint my old aluminium trip! First of all do I paint or wrap?! Secondly, how do I paint/wrap around the little silver strip on the ash trip lid without making it look rubbish?! Only thing I think will be tricky?! Thanks |

When I did mine I removed the silver trim, once the ashtray cover is separated you will see the stubs for the trim. I simply trimmed the excess away at the back so that the silver trim could be carefully pushed off. Once trimmed I replaced and put a blob of glue back on. This way you end up with a professional retrim.

Gloss black!
The only way to go I reckon, maybe a brushed anthracite/grey colour! |

I was going to wrap mine and decided to painted my alloy trim in gloss black.
With alloy trim, flat it with a 600 wet and dry paper and then used an etch primer to ensure a good paint adhesion otherwise it will just peel off, once that had been done its just a matter of applying the gloss black around 4 coats and then a flat with 1200 w/d paper with a little soap being very careful not rub through the gloss paint finish and then a light rub with farecla g10 polishing compound, here are the results. If anyone needs any wrap I have approx 8 metres x 4 inch 3m gloss black wrap tape available to buy pm if me interested. Last edited by oldbilly; 01-10-2014 at 05:16 PM.. |

Exactly the finish I am after! Is the amount of vinyl you gave enough to do the interior?! Thanks |

I love the finish you've got on that, I'd give it a go but don't fancy driving around with no trim while I sort it out. What kind of paint did you use?

a self etch primer and a carplan gloss black aerosol, its the prep on the alloy that counts, a good rub down 600 w/d and then apply the etch primer in light coats just enough to cover, if there any marks/imperfections these need to be rectified with filler/stopper before glossing. I have another set that is nearly finished and a further set I brought a while ago waiting to be looked at. |
