New Bumper Design for e92 LCI?
Hi guys!
Love this forum. It truly has an abundant amount of useful information. Never really posted much... Now I think I have something to contribute. Little bit about myself, I finished Mechanical engineering & automotive product design. Currently I'm building a complete 3D model of the Shelby Cobra, for one of my clients. Improving the vehicle in every way possible along the way. I had an idea for some time now to design a new front bumper for my e92 LCI. (inspired by the m4 bumper) http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=878107 started modeling in Solidworks. Modeling/ designing can only get you so far. I needed very skilled people to bring the design to life, and build a perfect mold. Here is where my client comes in. I pitched the idea to them, explaining to them what I desire, and hopefully what others would be interested in. Blend e92 LCI vehicle lines so the bumper will look as if its an oem design. Ideas. I met with two very skilled body guys that have decades of experience, who hand-sculpted this. All the prof I needed that they are the right guys for the job. Under 3 month time frame for the final product. I am curious if there is any interest in this? An m4 style front bumper for e92 lci that would flow with the rest of the car. Also a nice carbon fiber lip to go along with the bumper. This will happen! Any input welcome Thanks guys! Last edited by GRID; 03-07-2014 at 03:37 PM.. |

Not a big fan of new front end. Very busy and the aggressiveness isn't a match. Like sticking a Lambo clip on a Ferarri. I like your skills though. Maybe work on something unique. It would be cool to see.

I agree, m4 bumper is very aggressive. Not a real match. I do want to incorporate a somewhat similar look, but have a nice flow to it like the mtech front end. |

omg. Yes. PLEASE DO IT.
We will have a HUGE group buy and interest for this. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...hlight=e92+lci It can become the NEXT BIG thing. Toronto isn't too far if you need an e92 LCI for testing either.

Looks like I'm taking my car to the experts this week. They will take my bumper off and get the pickup points. I want this just as bad as you! |

As soon as you get a few e92 LCI ones, let's throw them into production! I've got a ton of shows to attend for this spring

I think the interest would depend a lot on its pricing.
If it can be sold for the price of the m3/mtech reps out there, then I can see a lot of people jumping on this. That white car on the bottom left is my car It was a very quick and rough photoshop. Maybe I can find a picture of a more aggressive e92 (m3 side skirts, OSS headlights, etc) and photoshop that bumper on it to see if it flows better. |

It will be done with quality as number one priority.I also, want the bumper to be affordable, and therefore hopefully very desirable. Cheers. |

I'm local to you and I think I would probably be interested.
I've tried all the front bumpers for my pre-lci and none of them really blew me away so I wouldn't mind switching my front end to LCI for this bumper. If you need any help with anything for future projects let me know, I have a couple bumpers sitting around that might be of some use to you. I wish you were around earlier when I was more involved in this platform, I would have pitched some crazy ideas to you and blew up your inbox haha.

Looks like you're using SolidWorks - from one Design Engineer to another, how did you get all the data points to model the body parts of an existing car so as to design the bumper to match up? Did you scan the entire car?

Its Solidworks indeed. I used e92 blueprints. Placing front, back, side and top views in sketch mode. Then using projected curves to place my body lines. Its close to the real thing but would never be accurate to the point of creating an actual exterior component from the model. I have an ability to scan the car with a laser scanner. But for now its just a visual representation for the guys that will be sculpting the bumper by hand.
