Engine light on after revving hard

Hey guys, I have a 2007 e90 335i. I took it out for a spirited drive today and I once I revved it really hard, the engine light went on. This happened before but I didn't think too much of it. The engine light goes away after a while, but it appears every time I drive my car hard. The only thing I have on it is a DCI and it's chipped with Cobb Stage I Aggressive.

I don't want to spend a whole lot of money by taking it to the dealership to figure out what's wrong with it. My warranty's expired and I don't have any reputable shops in the area that would be able to tell me what's wrong with the car. Any ideas?

Edit: Just a few more details: 40k miles, regular maintenance and oil was changed at 38k miles.

A couple of questions:

1) When the light goes on is there any stuttering from the engine or is it completely smooth?

2)Have your tried reversing the COB stage 1 and going back to your stock map?

3) is there any rough idling when you start your car in the morning?

Similar issue with my car about a year ago. It turned out to be one of the VANOS solenoids was bad. Replaced by the dealer under CPO warranty.

If this is the problem, I think it is pretty easy to tell from the codes thrown.

Also, if you don't have an oil cooler in your 07 (like me) it is possible that the oil temp got too high and went into limp mode. Do you know if that could have been the problem?
