Remap 118D - advice

Hi guys

I sold my 535D a few weeks ago and looks like i'll be using the 118D as my workhorse - basically 20 miles on the M4 followed by 5 miles on twisty A roads - will also use on weekends etc

The car is a 55 plate and has done about 63k with full service history etc - just about to get a new clutch and flywheel due to a noisy flywheel and clutch judder

The ask - is it worth getting it remapped and if so, what will be the difference? Also, I dont want to "age" the car quicker then it would in stock form so would appreciate any knowledge on this as well

P.S - I have owned a Mk4 Golf GTi (180 model) which had a Revo remap and was bags of fun (but thirsty due to the fun of driving) but never been in a mapped derv burner hence the Q

55 reg will be the pre-facelift 122bhp version. They are known for having a weak turbo and rear diff. I wouldn't risk remapping it as these have been known to go. At least you don't have the N47 engine and the timing chain issues. Have a look on babybmw.net, friendly bunch and very helpful

if its going to go, you might as well get it out of the way while having a bit of enjoyment :P
then you can fit a Garrett unit and be happy in the knowledge that the mitsu shitter is in the skip.

The turbo will eventually fail, and it "may" fail quicker if remapped but not I would argue if remapped properly. It's a wear and tear component at the end of the day.

You can do alot to a car without just turning up the boost to 11 and a reputable remap outfit would not risk putting unnecessary wear on your turbo.

A remap would unlock 30 ponies for less than £300 and if done by the right place not cause you any issues.

I'd personally say go for it.

Let me know if you want a recommendation on a good place to go to! (Drop me a PM .. )
