Where Do You Buy Your Oil?

I do my own oil changes mainly because it's quicker than taking it somewhere and waiting for somebody else to screw up my car, and I trust my own work. I've been doing on every car I've owned for the past 40 years. Let somebody else do it for a while years back until I found a huge oil spill on my garage floor after they did it becasue the oil filter was loose. Went back to doing it myself after that. Even taught my youngest daughter how to do it herself, but she married a mechanic.

I've been buying the Mobil 1 0W40 at NAPA, AutoZone or Advance, but I just saw it in a 5 quart jug for much less at Wal Mart. I don't think we are supposed to post prices here, but it was significantly less expensive than the other places. Anybody see a problem with buying there?

Mobil 1 is Mobil 1, the same wherever you buy it. I get my 0W-40 at Walmart in the very jug you described and so far everything has been breezy. It's like $9 a quart or something at AZ/Napa/Advance and I can get the 5qt jug at Walmart for $27.

Also worth noting: AZ is selling Castrol 0W-40 for around $5 a quart

I believe you can get the Mobile1 (5 qt) jug of LL-01 synthetic oil for about $22 at Wal mart and you can buy a 10 pack of oil filters online Tischer/Amazon for under $90 to make it a very economical oil change if you want. At those prices you might as well do the OCI at around 5000 miles or 7500 miles.

My personal (lazy) preference is to use the online coupons available at various BMW dealership websites to get the oil change done by BMW for about $65 every 10k miles and not get my hands dirty.

On one of our cars we use Pennzoil Platinum. For a while there was a special rebate, so a $23 5 qt. jug ended up being $13. I got a total of 6 of them from Walmart. On the other car we also use synth, but I don't care what kind, so for 2 yrs. it's been this Shell Oil 5W30 synth, got 18 qts. @ 6 for $19.99 at BJ's whorehouse.

The BMW has only been changed at the dealership so far. When you can get $58 to $70 at the dealership, it's a tough sell to be ordering the oil online and DIY....

MANN Filter from Amazon
2X 5QT Jug 0w-40 Mobil 1 @ Wallyworld for sure. $23 can't beat that. I just buy two the first time so I have enough to do a complete change and have some left over for the next change.

Bosch Filter with Mobil 1 0W-40 Euro grade Syn.
Total ran me about $60. After discovering how insanely tight the filter cover was doing it myself after a stealership did it, I feel much more comfortable doing it myself.

Used to buy at AutoZone but now I get it at Wal-Mart its just a bit cheaper.

Usually get filters from AZ, Amazon or bavauto.

For a car under warranty, that's the way to go.

I'm in west los angeles, and the local dealer (Santa Monica BMW, 1.7/5 stars on internet reviews ) would probably charge me twice list

I'll purchase the oil online from ECS tuning if I have a coupon or just go to Wal Mart. I bought the filters in bulk from ECS Tuning as well for $90 which includes 10 MANN filters. Its always nice when the dealer runs specials, sometimes I can have it done there for $60!
