Washing Your Car in the Winter
Doesn anyone wash their cars in the winter? Or am I the only crazy one? I do it myself, becaues I do not trust the car wash. I was just wondering what everyone else does?

NO significant winter here in SoCal!
But back then when I was living in Boston, remember to wash your car's undercarriage, rinse and wash out all the snow, salt, chemicals that they put on the snow and end up in ur car's undercarriage....

Wash the car in the garage. 125,000 BTU heater in the garage. Use hot water to wash car. Last year it got down to 10 above zero outside and in the garage it was a nice 61 degrees.

No matter how cold it is I always wash my car myself. In my last house I had a heated water line so that was nice, but it still sucked having to wash the car when it was 40 degrees out.

When I used to wash my car in Boston, I thought my fingers are gonna drop off because it was like 35F outside!

I do it myself when the temperature allows. When its too cold, I use a touchless carwash.

I voted car wash... but I want to clarify -- only the brush less ones with the high pressure water and soap guns.

I don't drive my 335i coupe in the winter, but my other cars get washed. As long as the temp is above 32 for a number of hours, i can do it. I have heavy duty rubber gloves with regular winter gloves under them. This keeps your hands warm so they don't feel like they are going to break off!

I have an insulated sheep skin wash mit for just such purpose. I use tepid water, and wash as often as weather allows. My next door neighbor is just as nuts, so I don't look so crazy by comparison!
I will also use a touchless wash if I have to during winter, especially after snow and crud are all over it.

Not sure what I'm going to do this year. Last winter I was living in a condo with a car wash place which had a machine wash and hand wash options so I would just take it there for a hand wash summer and winter.
This year I've moved into a house in the burbs and I've been washing the car myself during the summer, I'm not too sure what I'll do this winter. If it's warm ish I'll do it myself, but I think I'll be heading to the touchless car wash just down the street more often. |

Since I shut my outside water off for the winter, I will bring plenty of quarters to those do it yourself places, as long as the temps are above freezing. No hack at a car wash is going to drive my 6MT.....
