Damn Chicago Intersection Cameras

So I am driving home tonight and as I enter an intersection the light is still green but as I am midway through the light turns yellow, not even a second later I am blinded by what seems to be a camera flash. I can only assume this was one of those stupid intersection cameras busting me for running a red light when I didn't

The light turned yellow when I was in the middle of the intersection and turned red when I was already through, I know because as I looked in my rear view mirror it was still yellow.

Has anyone successfully contested this? I am just pissed b/c I truly did not run a red light and the camera made a mistake.

I just read that these tickets are $90

Not all flashes/pics end up being tickets. The camera has to get two pics, one prior to you passing the start of the intersection with the light at red and the second as you car is in the intersection on a red. I got one in the mail a few weeks ago, there was no excuse I could give, the pics said it all. The city is putting them all over the place. Some that I know of are... Clark and Fullerton(got ticket there), Peterson/Western (been there for a while), Devon/Broadway, Hollywood/Sheridan (where lake shore drive ends)

I crossed a red light over the summer in a BMW loaner.....

and the cameras went crazy....snapped-snapped-snapped!

it's been about 5 months....no ticket in the mail!

I had few "flashes" in the recent weeks at Clark and Fullerton and Hollywood and Sheridan. But, Im pretty sure I made it through OK. The traffic camera tickets are from city of Chicago, (I paid mine online). You can check periodically on the city's website... under parking tickets, by plate and last name. I check the site about every other week to see if Im getting any tix. I donate about $500/year to Chicago in the form of parking/red light tix

Worse case scenario if the ticket comes, and you are so sure you crossed
the intersection with a yellow, contest it and go to court claiming it was
unsafe for you given the legal speed limit the position of your car and the
conditions of the road to make a hard stop - it would have put you in the
middle of the intersection. Just a thought.

do these tickets go on the record as moving violations under my NAME? or is it just under the plates on my car?

i guess what im asking is if im one ticket away from getting suspended, will this count against me or is it like a parking ticket where it doesnt really matter as long as you pay the damn thing?

No they do not go on your record as moving violations because they can't prove that you were driving the vehicle. If you actually do get ticketed you won't win in court because they'll send you a pic of your car going through the intersection and the light being red.

Hey at least it's not a mobile speed camera like some of the cities around Cleveland has. Just a camera on a tripod that they throw on the side of the street with a cable running to a van. The law says, "the van must be in clear site" which it is, just never in clear site of the direction that the camera is aimed. Which is pretty fucked up.

Just imagine cruising along and OH SHIT theres a camera that's nicely placed around a corner or behind a sign/bush and the van is 50 yards or so chillin in a parking lot. It's pretty fuckin sweet. Figures its the ghetto cities that employ such shady tactics.
