Heads Up: Amazon: Car Tracker £27.48

Just spotted this on Hotukdeals and bought one, cheap and if it's no good it didn't hurt the pocket much.

Rated 4.5 / 5 on amazon customer reviews (48)

From Description:

Complete system integration to your vehicle
Global coverage with quad-band GSM frequency
Extensive functions through SMS
Immobilize your vehicle on demand
GPRS and Internet application
Edit: Also has a microphone for the cabin although not sure how it works

I personally wouldn't trust to wire it into the ignition but im going to use it as an on demand tracker. Has a built in battery and I use the car daily so it should be sufficient to keep it charged.

Going to put a Pay as you go sim in there with a tenner on it just in case if i ever need the location, one call to the box apparently will result in getting a text back with location.

UPDATE

Just received the item today, initial impressions are positive, comes with a GSM and a GPS antenna, a small alarm of sorts which I doubt I'm going to use as I want to keep the tracker low key. Also has a memory card slot (i guess for position plotting, and recording audio)

Build quality is good, the tracker itself is in a metal housing, strong but small and light so should be discreet.

Below are images of the package and the actual items, although I forgot to get a snap of the GPS antenna.

Gonna work out how to install and will update hopefully with a DIY!

Saw the same system a couple of months ago on a different site for £80+ so that's a decent saving.

Please do a tutorial on the install if you can! This looks like a smart piece of kit for the money

I plan on when I get a chance to install it! Will require some help from here as im a wiring novice but shouldn't be too difficult.

Plan on wiring it into the trunk and sneaking the microphone down the side of the rear seats or something

If you just want to track your car how about something like this:

Has anyone tried one of these units or similar..?

I may be wrong, but with a PAYG Sim, don't you have to make a *call* every 3/6 months or it is deleted ??

You would need to remember to use it every so often, or when you really need it, it will not work.

Just checked it up and for O2 its 180 days, which sucks.... But the amount of times I've lost my car at Meadowhall or the Trafford Centre, for me lack of use wont be an issue

AFAIK, these units do not support 3G sims but that does not make a difference. You buy 2G sim and it should work.
I had a look at these devices and mentioned about this under ' DIY/ Aftermarket options of making your BMW secure'.
If you search, there should be iphone application for this to change geo-fencing and alter other options as well.

Good luck with the installation.

Just had a read of that thread, and will look into the geo fencing app and get a 2G SIM. As always appreciate the advice makkan

Gonna give it a try soon and update!
