What tune for N55

I have a stock 2011 335xi auto with the N55. Looking to go for a tune but not sure what the benefits of them are. It seems like the Cobb and the Jb4 are the most commonly used. Any suggestions? Thanks

Facing the exact same dilemma over here. I was pretty set on the JB4 but then I heard some pretty compelling arguments in favor of the cobb. I was also told by a tuner shop that the JB4 constantly tries to fight the DME (makes sense I guess) and the Cobb is a much more complete tune. I do like all the features the JB4 offers though and it seems to be pretty sweet with ISO. Might be a good one to try out first and if you don't like it get the Cobb and sell the JB4

There is PLENTY of threads with the info you want. Just search a little...
Yes, Cobb and JB4 are the most popular tunes. I prefer JB4 over Cobb, the on-the-fly functions with the steering wheel, Gauge hijack and Shifting lights on top of the massive power output got me hooked, just my personal choice. The ISO firmware is really smooth and you can feel the low end output better.
Nothing wrong with Cobb, easier to install via OBD port. You will find plenty of members using it.

My 2 Cents

I had a Cobb AP on my WRX, and now have the JB4 on my 2011 335i.
I must say that I am very impressed with the JB4. Gains on an otherwise stock car are truly amazing.

If you are looking for ease of install, shoot for the Cobb.
If you are looking for sheer awesomeness, shoot for the JB4. The self-tuning map is a great feature. Can't wait to install my downpipe and intake this weekend!

Well I just decided to stop over thinking it and pulled the trigger on the JB4 Stage 2 and the flex fuel wires (literally 3 minutes ago). Took my own advice and will try the JB4 out first. If I don't like it I can always sell it and try the Cobb.

consider an intake at the same time. BMW's airbox is fine at stock levels, but more boost means it needs more air, and your airfilter is the bottleneck.

<$100 for the DCI's from BMS and they install at the same time since you'll have the cowl off anyhow. Do it all at once and save yourself the second job.

I got cobb and I love it. I went back and forth over which tune to choose. I also got the alpina tcu which compliments the tune. I went with cobb just for the pro tuning factor and the fact I just flash the obd2 and forget it. I've had bad experiences with similar tunes like the jb4 set up and just seeing a few personal experiences of issues others have had. The whole on the fly map changing and gauges didn't interest me at all. Didn't really see why I would change the maps while driving and I plan on getting a P3 gauge so I can read actually real inputs/numbers.

The cobb just seems in the grand scheme a easier and a little more simple to use.

The price wasn't a factor for me as I was able to pick up a brand new V2 cobb for a price similar to JB4.

Wish I had the option of going Cobb but they're a bit incompetent and cannot help the people like me with 2012+ N55 engines in the E92. Lame.

Yeah I read about that, it really sucks that you're limited in choosing tunes. Hopefully down the line they are able to break through the coding for the 12 and up guys.

Love my JB4. You don't need CAI for the N55. Just get a filter.
Look into CP, DP, FMIC, and the tune obviously.

Ehm... NO

Don't know how you came up with this info...

The airbox is fine, no need to change it! You americans just have to change the filter

Ehm... that's what I said, read it again. Air filter is the bottleneck. Nowhere did I say you had to replace the box. I just made the decision to on mine.

Thanks for agreeing with me tho! lol

NOPE. failed there too. The car ran but it ran like shit. I had JB4 lol. It was the stage 2 with flex fuel wires too and everything. Nothing works with our car and it pisses me off. All companies are just concentrating on the F30/F32 N55 engine managements not ours. The forgotten 2012 DME N55 for the E92s

How is an F series N55 different than an E9X series N55- I don't get it.

Many hundreds in use on 2012+ models. If you have an issue work with BMS tech support to get it fixed!

Their DMEs are different. Same engine obviously but the management is different. In 2012 BMW went w/ a different one for just the remainder of the E92s being made until they stopped production back in June or so of 2013. My car was made in March of 2013.
